This was probably the highlight of my meal kit experiences ever. I am usually not a fan of these "follow the instructions at a premium price" products as we are a couple with enough time to make a meal after work with not too much trouble. I feel in general these types of kits are great for teenagers/kids learning and improving their cooking or those who are very very time poor. However I will revise my opinions on the basis of my experience and may even purchase in future.

We didn't entirely follow the instructions/ingredients as we like spinach and had a different selection of veg available and usually add a lot more vegetables than these types of products suggest. We also added an extra 100g of chicken which suits our tastes. I would definitely suggest "adapt to your tastes" and the instructions and the suggestions did point this direction which I loved.

The taste was great. I cannot make this clearer, the flavours are strong but not overpowering. The sauce / extras are perfect complements. This is a well put together combination which has clearly been well thought out as there were not silly extras and leftovers. A great easy meal. The chicken coating is a beautiful mix of gentle flavours and I would even suggest this would be a good introduction to mexican cooking for the less than confident. Probably not ideal for the keen mexican consumer who loves a strong powerful authentic taste with lots of heat.

The taste was great for me as I said as a non-excited mexican food consumer. Also worth noting for us the result was just a little bit messy (which I have to admit was a positive not a negative for me as I love getting close and personal with my food). I have since purchased one of these kits to make my 11 year niece able to make us all dinner as the instructions were great and she would handle it well to experiment with mexican and widen her tastes.

I am keen to find a vegetarian option to add to these to allow this to be a quick and simple vegatarian dinner for a family too.

If you haven't tried a Farrah's meal kit yet you definitely need to as they are amazing and perfect for a busy household when you don't have a lot of time to meal prep. Although this is smoky chipotle it is very mild and great for the whole family. My children who can be very sensitive to heat in food found this great and we're happy to eat their dinner and even ask for more.

Taco nights are always a hit as the novelty of making your own dinner and choosing what you put in it appeals to my children. We laid out some chopped salad and the cooked chicken and the children were able to select what ingredients they wanted to put in their own tortilla wrap. My children aren't huge fans of sauce so my hubby and I got to have that to ourselves which was great as it added a great flavour to the taco.

Although we made the kit on this occasion with chicken there are other serving suggestions on the packaging and these are so versatile you could pretty much use any meat. My husband suggested he would like this particularly flavour with some steak or beef schnitzel and I agree that mild smoky chipotle really lends itself to red meat. We will definitely be buying this meal kit again in the future as it was a hit with the whole family and is quick and easy to prepare and cook for a delicious family meal.

Although this kit is advertised as "Smoky Chipotle", a flavour I would normally associate with hot and spicy, the addition of the disclaimer "mild spice" was an indicator that the contents might not be too hot for the children. We decided the best way to serve the dish would be to spread all the ingredients on the table and let everyone help themselves. The opportunity to build their own tacos had instant appeal, and the youngsters happily assisted with the preparation without any complaints. We did not even have to ask them!

For the basic filling, we cooked some chicken slices with the spice sachet which had come as part of the kit. Both children tasted the spice before it was added and assured them that it was ok. Once the chicken was cooked through, everyone tasted a small piece. My daughter thought we could have used any meat, and possibly fish as well. We had gone for chicken because that was what was suggested on the packet, but the spices would go with a wide variety of other foods.

The meat was tipped into a bowl and left in the oven to keep warm while the tortillas were heated individually in a pan. This was a quick process: a few seconds was enough to warm them through without drying them out. While my daughter and I were doing that, the children put other items on the table: small bowls of different items that could be added such as sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, chopped spring onions, avocado, wedges of fresh lime, and strips of capsicum. The kit comes complete with a sachet of mayo that offers a hint of spice and chipotle; we cut the corner off and stood the sachet in a small drinking glass as we were not sure how much each person would want.

We thought that two tacos apiece would be about right; there were five of us altogether, all reasonably hungry, so we did not expect any leftovers. Mr 11 wanted a third, and we though he was going to be out of luck, but Miss Nine said she had eaten enough after she had finished her first, so he got her second - much to his delight! Both children gave the tortillas the tick of approval; they had tasted a piece of one before they started their taco-building and thought they were good enough to eat on their own. They were nicely fresh and springy, and Mr 11 thought he would happily eat one plain if he had no filling. Apart from the kid approval rating, the kit is a great way to prepare a healthy meal in a hurry - and it is something that could be kept in the store cupboard for an occasion when everyone is rushing off somewhere.

We are extremely active during the school term, so when it comes to the holidays I seem to loose all momentum and really enjoy the time to blobbing and staying inside where its nice and warm. Unfortunately, takeaways seem to raise their annoying hands during these periods as who wants to stand around in the kitchen cooking dinner? That is why I love how amazing and fast these dinners can be and did I mention yummy.

The great thing with the box is it gives serving suggestions - chicken, steak, fish anything can be used as a base, even the good old vegetarian option is available. I did plan on having steak with this but as I could not bear the idea of going to the groceries I made do with what I had in the fridge instead. Opening the freezer I had frozen chicken pieces - so threw them on the bench this morning and didn't think about dinner again till after five. Cooking is a breeze just put the chicken piece is the frying pan with some oil, then add the Spice Mix with onions and garlic and a couple of mushrooms and some grated carrot. Dice up some tomato and avocado and shred some lettuce and grate some cheese and dinner is virtually made. You don't need to go on a shopping spree as whatever you have in the house can work.

The other bonus is after everything is prepared you get to throw everything on the bench and everyone helps themselves. I was a tad worried about the sauce so I pulled out some sour cream but it turns out I was the only one with an issue. The first one I tried had a lot of sour cream and it made it so creamy that I loved it. The next one I tried with just the sauce and I found it a tad too spicey and my mouth was rather hot (any spice and I don't get on) it was bearable but I do prefer my trusty sour cream and that's exactly what I did with the third one. My husband and girls absolutely adored the sauce and they all reckon the Chipotle sauce and seasoning gave it another element.

It was actually really nice to have a different flavour to the tacos instead of just salsa. It did not take hardly any time to prepare but the praise I received about the taste was very welcoming. I am sure we will be having this flavour again, in the not so distant future, and no doubt it will be with garlic steak.
