Colorfox likens itself to dominoes and that is a comparison that I haven't ever really thought of when playing the game. The set up is nice and easy, just one deck of cards and the different coloured sticks. Shuffle, deal everyone three cards and then place one face-up in the middle of the playing area and group together each of the coloured sticks to the side. Each player then takes turn placing a card that will connect up the same colour on the cards already placed, if lucky you can match up more than one stick per card. Match a colour up and you gain its matching coloured stick, match more than one gain more than one (this is where you can be tricky though, as if you match 2 or more colours you can choose to take one from the stash and one from an opponent!).
Since all the cards placed must all be landscape or all portrait, this adds a level of difficulty in placing your card but it does add some satisfaction if you manage to match more than one side. Always be prepared that the cards may all seem to gravitate in one direction and so you might have to move things around slightly. When all of one colour stick have been claimed, the game ends and you earn points based on the sets of different colours you can then make. Because of this game end system, game length is going to land heavily on who you play with. The kids and I play it short and sweet because they're not paying attention to what is left in the stash, whereas a friend and I have quite long games as we try to stay away from the ones with the least sticks left.
This isn't the best game I have with this kind of game play but it is still fun enough that we have kept it and bring it out now and again.
