Product reviews...
As an Early Childhood Teacher and a Mum I absolutely swear by Bonjela in aiding children with relief from teething, it's funny to think that such a little tube of gel can provide such relief to young children but it really does the trick. Working with Under 2 year olds a majority of the time while I am at work I have seen many parents come in to the centre often tired due to sleepless nights as a result of teething asking for tips and ideas of how to ease the pain and discomfort of their children's teeth, Bonjela is always my go to product which I suggest to parents time and time again. When my daughter was born I tried to go down the path of using natural products first such as teething powders and spray though I found these to be very ineffective so reverted to Bonjela which worked wonders, within just a few minutes I went from having a grizzly baby to a happy baby.
Though Bonjela is mostly known for it's aid in teething babies, it actually has many other uses such as for treating mouth ulcers, cold sores, and teeth pain in adults. I can happily say that in the cases of mouth ulcers and in cases of extreme teeth pain that this stuff really does work its magic and has been a god send to me when I have suffered from such things. It always makes the pain feel 110% better as it numbs the area and in turn relieves the pain and also leaves quite a pleasant taste in your mouth.
The label on the Bonjela box states not to use this more than once every 3 hours, which is something I have always stuck to. It is also really important to note that this product should not be used on children under 4 months old, an important thing to remember as many children under this age may experience signs of teething and discomfort.
Bonjela is a product I will be recommending for many years and also something that I will always have on hand in our home medical box, more likely for ulcers and teeth pain than for teething however. A very useful product for parents of teething children, I wouldn't use anything else.
I found that this product did work on two of my three kids so that is a good start. I had a biter who wouldn't use a dummy or anything so I learnt to put some on my finger and then as quick as possible get the gel onto the gums, hopefully before my finger got too badly bitten.
I have also used this on my own mouth ulcers as I had tried a whole lot of things but this is the only one that did work. Like the taste but really love the numb feeling it leaves in my mouth, just have to ignore the slight stinging as I get small cuts/abrasions around the ulcer but that only lasts for a minute or two.
Don't have any teething kids any more.. my youngest is 3 so don't currently have any in the house but if needed this would be my first choice.
Bonjela is a wonderful product for both adults and babies alike. Being an Early Childhood teacher who works with many under two year old children I have known about this product for years now. A product that I know has saved many a parent from teething battles with babies that's for sure! It honestly does still amaze me how quickly this product works and provides relief. In fact if it wasnt for using the product myself I would probably question its effectiveness and argue that it is just the flavouring or action of applying the gel that is a distraction from pain and crying caused from teething.
Your only meant to use this gel every 3hours, which in children I've always followed to a precise time, however when using the product myself occasionally for mouth ulcers I definately used it more than this. It didn't appear to have any side effects or cause issues from over use, and I never did that for days on end, only when the ulcer was at its worst and most painful.
A product which is easy to use and comes in a convient easy to keep with you tube Bonjela is definately something I recommend to everyone - whether its for yourself or your babies.
I have been a fan of Bonjela teething gel for about 6 years now. I was given a tube of it when my first daughter was born. I tasted it and it has a real black jellybean/aniseed flavour to it. Its very strong, but the gel itself is also fast acting. You can taste that flavour, but then there is a tingle on the affected skin and before you know it the pain is gone.
I personally use this gel on ulcers, and sore gums when I have had dental work. I also use it on my baby's gums. Both of my babies have teethed really late. Teething has not been so bad, except for molars which are awful. I like that it is fast acting. I'm never sure if its numbing her gum immediately or if the flavour is just such a distraction from the pain and crying. Either way I get immediate silence and that is golden!
I keep a tube at home and one in my purse which doubles as my nappy bag. I would recommend this to any mother, looking for quick relief for their baby. Its a trusted brand for me, and I like that I'm not constantly reaching for the stronger pain relievers for my baby. The cost is high, but it lasts for ages and ages. Plus you can easily get it at a supermarket, which is very convenient.
Bonjela is a gel that has been sent directly from heaven!! I can't be without a tube in my house and one in my handbag/pocket!! Not only can it be used for babies but adults can be soothed by it's antiseptic pain relieving gel as well...it is perfect for when wisdom teeth decide to pop through...disappear and then pop through again!!
I am guilty of applying the gel before the 3 hours is up but when my wisdom teeth were coming through I applied more gel before the pain got sore again. As soon as Bonjela is applied the pain disappears, and the numbing effect takes hold straight away. Such a relief, and it tastes great too which is great since it is being applied directly into the mouth.
I have known about Bonjela since I was a teenager, and am surprised that some of my friends haven't even heard of the stuff before!! I was babysitting one my friends 9 month old daughter and she was teething at the time, when it came to bedtime she was unsettled because of her teeth...I applied the Bonjela from my handbag and within 5 minutes she was settled and asleep....when my friend arrived back she asked what my secret was and I told her about the Bonjela and she was amazed....so I left her with my tube of bonjela and now she is a fan because it helped her little girl through teething.
I wouldn't be without a tube on hand for any situation....it is great for mouth ulcers which I suffer from time to time as well, instant relief. A miracle in a tube well and truly!! It is so easy to buy with it being available at all supermarkets, I always make sure I never run out and always have a tube on hand!
As a teenager my wisdom teeth took forever to come through and they would all take turns cutting through. For the better part of a year I survived with Bonjela Teething Gel in my pocket. I loved the strong minty taste, the sensation of it numbing my gums and the instant relief it gave me. Although I was constantly applying it (much more frequently than the 3 hours stated) the tube lasted for a very long time making it excellent value for money.
Over twenty years later when my babies were teething bonjela came to the rescue again although I was very careful to follow the directions. They both seemed to find the taste too strong for them but the immediate change in their behaviour showed me that they were getting relief from the pain. As both my girls are thumb suckers I found it was often easiest just to put it on their thumb and they would instinctively rub it on the sore gum.
Both my husband and I have used it for any type of pain in the mouth and find it great. I find it reassuring to have an ointment that I know is safe for the mouth and lips that I can just grab from the supermarket or pharmacy. I have often added a tube of Bonjela when I am making a hamper for a baby shower as it is something I know every mum will need.
Well let me go back to teething babies. My two kids started early with teething and this product does say not for under 4 months, well at 3 months old when my kids started this teething process and nothing else was working I turned to bonjela and it become my best friend. I didnt go over board just a small dot on the finger and onto the gums.
As they got older and started biting i would put a bit on the dummy and pop that in the mouth it did the same trick, i got to sleep at night knowing the gums were feeling good, when going to bed i would reapply while they slept. I even used it when I was getting sore gums/teeth while i waited to get into a dentist. its amazing stuff really.
I recommend a tube in every household that had babies or young teething children, I use to keep my one in the fridge keeps it nice and cold when applying it feels good. You dont use a lot for the gums so the price of a small tube is worth it, I only used 1 tube per child and each tube lasted me 2 years. This also taste pretty good, of course I had to try it.
This stuff has been a real life saver since my son has been teething, and have prevented many long nights combined with pamol and lots of cuddles. He is at the moment getting his four back molars so has been really upset having previously had no troubles with the front teeth he already has.
I hadn't used bonjela on him before so gave it a go and it does seem to calm him down and he seems to quite like the taste as he lets me rub it in to his gums and tries to lick it back off. Almost instantly when he has had pamol and a good covering of bonjela he seems more settled and less tearful.
I have also used this on an ulcer I had on my tongue and it sort of numbs it so you cant feel it as much any more, it gives quite a tingly sensation but it is not unpleasant. The taste is not too bad it is not what I would call nice but it is definitely not unpleasant at the same time so you don't mind having it in your mouth.
It is not too expensive either and the tube we have has lasted really well so is good value for money as in the mouth a little bit goes a long way.
