Juicies are an icon product in schools and are loved by children all over New Zealand and Australia. The great thing is that parents love them too as they have the Heart Foundation Tick, contribute to the recommended two or more servings of fruit a day, and don't contain any preservatives, colours or artificial flavours.
Product reviews...
One of my fondest memories from my time at high school was of my regular trips to the school canteen on hot Dunedin days. (I know what you are thinking but we do occasionally have them)
I would go and join the long queues, and once at the front ask for an Orange flavour Juicie, and hope that they hadn't sold out as they were always so popular.
The flavour of the Orange Juicie was so refreshing and really quenched my thirst for a delicious, frozen treat. I had tried the wildberry flavour one but found it very strong and decided I would stick with the Orange or Tropical.
I purchase Juicies in a box from my local supermarket while doing the groceries and find that they are a better buy than other boxes of similar ice blocks. Each Juicie lasts longer because they are larger than a standard Popsicle. A really appealing trait of Juicies is that the flavour goes right through them, so once you have a few sucks you are not left with a large, bland block of ice which you are tempted to throw out. My only complaint is I wish the boxes had more Juicies in them, that way I don't have to keep making trips to the supermarket.
My partner, myself, and our three young children have recently moved to a small coastal town and are looking forward to a nice long, warm summer filled with numerous boxes of Orange Juicies enjoyed at the beach.
Juicies are one of those products that are always well stocked in our freezer during the hot summer months, in fact with the hotter weather we have been experiencing over the past few weeks I made sure to include a box in my groceries this week. My memories of eating Juicies go way back to being at Intermediate School, I would once a week always on a Friday have lunch money and my purchase at the school canteen would always consist of a Cookie Time, small container of Nutella and a Juicie (not the healthiest of lunches I know but it always tasted great).
Juicies come in a variety of flavours orange, orange and mango, apple, Wildberry and tropical, and from memory at the school canteen they were available in a small and large size, however in the supermarkets I have only ever seen the smaller size available. My favourite flavour of Juicies in the apple flavour, but sadly these don't seem to sell at Supermarkets, I have only ever seen the tropical flavours and the Wildberry ones which are kept in the frozen section alongside all of the other ice blocks. There is also a mixed box available at the supermarkets but for some funny reason these are not kept in the freezer but instead are kept down an isle amongst all of the dessert foods, why this is i'm not to sure?
Juicies are always full of flavour the whole way through, and don't leave you sucking on a huge chunk of ice right at the end as many ice blocks seem to. They taste fantastic and are made of real fruit juice, with no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. This makes them a great healthy treat for kids on a lovely summers day.
Easy to eat in a plastic casing just cut off the top, or the corner with scissors and suck away, this also prevents juice dripping everywhere. We love Juicies in our house and will continue to buy them.
I loved getting juicies for lunch when I was at high school. It was the favourite lunch time snack of almost every teenager at school. Then as I got older and moved into my own home, I started buying them in the boxes so that I could have them all the time!
At school, my favourite flavour was the orange one, which was the only flavour I would buy. I'm not sure if they have changed the recipe or if my taste buds have changed, but these days I am not keen on the orange flavour. Now my favourite is tropical. It is sweet (but not too sweet), refreshing and amazing on a hot summers day. Wildberry has never been on my radar- I tried it once and thought never again, which surprised me as I normally love berry flavoured things.
The boxes of juicies are pretty good value for money- you can usually pick them up for around $4 to $5 at Pak'n Save, and even if you have one a day, the box will last for a while. The box is a little bit flimsy though, so once it becomes half empty, the box will collapse under the weight of other things in the freezer and becomes a bit of a squashed up mess.
I recommend these for children, as they taste like a sweet treat, but are actually quite low in sugar and calories and do contribute to your daiy fruit servings. On a hot afternoon in the Summertime, your children will absolutely love a juicy... or two!
Juicies are yum. convenient and a healthy choice for a treat. I remember sharing them with friends at high school. An enjoyable treat for everyone. I always have some in the freezer. The Perfect choice for children, much better then artificial colours and flavours and preservatives. perfect way to get vitamin c into kids with sore throats. I find juicies are a good treat for me as I try to be healthy and lose a little weight, I can enjoy a treat with the kids too.
Great natural flavours with no added sugar, Nice classic flavours tropical is my favourite. It would be great if you could buy them already frozen in packs and singles, maybe they are some place but not my local supermarket. Would be awesome if they had a rip open top so no need to find scissors or a knife to but thats just dreaming! Make sure that they get frozen flat or it can be annoying to cut them open, but thats just being so fussy!
my whole family love Juicies and I'm happy knowing that they are a good choice with nothing nasty added in there. can't wait for summer weather to re-stock the freezer !
Gosh good old Juicies, the school yard favourite, the best thing about lunchtime. I had almost forgotten about these until I spotted them this summer in the supermarket, when looking for a decent ice block for my children. I was getting fed up with spending money on over priced frozen fowl flavoured ice blocks when I stumbled across this blast from my past and honestly I was excited!
Even more excited when I saw a variety pack of different flavours, as I only remember the one flavour at school.
The box they come in is colourful and have those same funny fruity characters on the front and inside are the wonderful frozen natural fruit juice blocks I remember. So I brought a box and introduced my children to them and you guess it they love them. Wildberry being theirs and my favourite.
The size of the block is generous and comes in the same plastic sleeve which sometimes is a pain for little ones to hold, either being difficult to push the ice block up or too cold to hold. But this is easily remedy by one cutting the block in half for a smaller portion and two wrapping a paper towel around the block so its not so cold on little fingers.
Juices can be brought either frozen or unfrozen from the supermarket and I have noticed there is a slight price difference being you pay more when buying them pre-frozen, but the difference is not great. So if you want to save a couple of pennies buy them unfrozen.
Since re-discovering these old favourites, I have since brought them a number of times and will continue to do so. I love them my children love them and I am happy to let them eat them till the cows come home knowing they are all natural!
I have been eating juicies since my school days when they sold them at the school can'teen and I would get one of them to cool me down on the hot days. My mum would also buy them and have them in the freezer at home in the summer and now I keep them in the freezer for my own daughter although she has to eat them quickly as me and her dad like them too.
The great thing with these is they keep their flavour so you don't end up with watery ice once you have sucked on it for a while like you get with some cheap ice blocks. I like the bit at the end when you can drink all the melted juice as even that is still full of flavour.
I like the variety pack as you get all the flavours so everyone can have their favourite, of course my daughters favourite is the wildberry and the great thing is that despite it being so bright in colour it has never stained any of her tops when she has dribbled it.
I love how they have no artificial colours or flavour and the fact that they have the heart foundation tick as it makes me feel like I am giving my daughter a healthy treat. Basically they are full of fruit so the sugar is the natural sugar in the fruit but is in a way that makes it more fun for children to eat.
when I was in high school juicies were the big hit for summer. They were cost effective, real fruit juice and made the perfect weekly treat. My friends and I would take turns shouting each other a juicie and so most weeks we would get one each lunchtime. The queue at the tuck shop, was made up of mostly juicies customers.
I get these occasionally for our freezer, as a change from popsicles. I prefer the flavour of these because they are real fruit juice. Though there are a few things I don't like much about them. They are the same things I have never liked and it's all to do with the packet.
Its a plastic baggy, with no stick. This makes the juicie really hard to get into it. I use to have to rip the packet open with my teeth which are annoying and occasionally painful. Now I have them at home, I can at least use scissors. The other thing I hate is when you are almost done with your juicie, sucking on the plastic bag and especially on the plastic seam that runs down the side of the baggy, hurts your tongue. I just think if it had a stick I wouldn't be trying to suck all the goodness out of the plastic bag.
Other than those packaging complaints, I still find these delicious and convenient as a treat in the freezer. They are still pretty cost effective too.
We love Juicies in our house, they are such a great idea, perfect size package and packed full of flavour. They don't contain preservatives, colours or flavours and are complete with the heart foundation tick too...what more could a mum want?
They come in a convenient, easy to store in the freezer, box, but the plastic packaging of the actual juicie is a bit of a mission to open. Surprisngly enough they are easy to slide out though, although miss 6 often needs help with this. The flavours are really strong, full fruit flavour, and even the colours are really bright/strong too.
They now come in six yummy flavours apprently but we have only found 3 of these so far at our local supermarket, with the mango being their favorite so far. As an added bonus, these juicies are considered natural enough to contribute to childrens daily fruit consumption (2 pieces of fruit a day).
The other great thing about these, is that on a really hot day, they also make fantastic ice cubes for drinks, which of course they kids think is great too. And parents can even add one to their little umbrella drink while sitting outside under the tree if they so desire. Sometimes its the most simplest of things that really are the best of things.
Who doesnt like a cold treat on a hot day?
We love these juicies, I loved them when I was younger too. My children can only eat half each at the moment but i'm sure as they get older they will be happy with a whole one. As a parent i'm happy for them to have these as they are fruity and without all the preservatives, colours and artificial flavours they are a great after dinner hot summer treat or just a hot day treat instead of a ice cream.
They flavours are so good and they really are full of the flavour in every little bite. Letting them melt in a glass and drinking it is just as good and well what my little boy likes to do at times cause its too cold to hold . But it works so they are happy.
If you're looking for a treat in the hot summer then reach for the juices and stock up the freezer, just so yummy not to have in the freezer.
My all time favourite frozen delicious treat and I am not at all surprised that these have lasted the test of time!! These juicies have been around since I was at school and yes that was many years ago now heehee! Anyway juicies are the best! I love the orange juicy the best and love how the juice taste stays until the very last drop...I mean it doesn't disappear once you start sucking or biting the juicy like some of the other non-juicy brands on the market!!
I like how juicy offers different options as well, can buy all one flavour, or buy a box of different flavours for sharing I guess if you are willing enough to share your juicies with friends or family. The size of the juicies are a perfect amount as well, well of course I want them to be bigger but I am lucky that I am the only one in the house that eats them so I can have more than one and most times that is what happens!
But I don't have to worry about eating half the box in one go (well usually not but hey...I could if I wanted!) because the great thing about juices are they have the Heart Foundation Tick, and if I ate 2 juicies a day it would contribute to my recommended two or more servings of fruit a day, and the good news just keeps coming because they don't contain any preservatives, colours or artificial flavours, so they can't get any better than that.
Good for me and full of fruit with the Heart Foundation recommendations, makes juicies a perfect healthy snack for everyone. With different flavours and a very reasonable price there aren't any excuses....so on your next trip to the supermarket seek them out and give them a go because you won't regret that decision...the only thing you will regret is running out! You will soon found yourself stocking up on them for the hot summer days.
I have know about Juicies for years but this summer I have become addicted to them. I am having two most days and my kids are having one each and my husband is having even more. I am not worried about this it is pure fruit juice and carries the Heart Foundation Tick.
Juicies come in several different flavours including wildberry, apple, lemonade and tropical. I don't have a favourite flavour. I love them all. The great thing about them is you can have them as a drink or an ice block. If we are going on a picnic I will often put frozen Juicies in the chilly bin as ice packs. After we have eaten our other food we can enjoy our Jucies whatever state they are in.
My girls (3 and 4.5) find it a bit hard to move the frozen Juicie up the plastic sleeve so we put a peg on the empty part of the packet to stop it sliding back down. We always make sure we have Juicies in the freezer. Although there are similar products out there at a cheaper price we find the flavour disappears from them quickly but with the Juicie the flavour lasts until the end.
