Well masters 9 and 10 absolutely loved this book "Killer Creatures" from the Navigators series. The cover is very eye catching... with a gorgeous tiger jumping out from a compass, which both boys said was awesome.

The information contained within the pages of this book were amazing. Lots of valuable and very interesting information, some we knew and some we had no idea and were surprised to read. The boys were constantly saying to me or their father "Wow, did you know a cheetah can reach speeds of 95km/h in 3-4 seconds, that's faster than your car Dad" or "Hey mum did you know a jumping spider can spot prey 30cms away?" and much more.

The pictures in the book are truly awesome. Some of them literally jumping out of the book at you. And the facts combined with each creature absolutely brilliant. It was amazing that we could learn so much from just one book... and not a massive on at that.

I agree that 8-15yr olds would really enjoy this one, as would any body older than 15yrs. I dont think many children younger than that would enjoy it though or appreciate what it is teaching them. I think many of the pictures would actually frighten younger children. Masters 9 and 10 tried to show Miss 4 some of the pictures that they really liked, but she was far from impressed Smile Icon

It is a shame many of the links in the book do not appear to work though, but with some further investigation it wasn't hard to find similar links though.

Definitely an awesome book and educational too.

This is one of those kids books that I enjoyed "flicking through" even as an adult. The pictures are very eye catching and almost have a 3-D look to them. They certainly got Miss 4.5's attention as I tried to wrestle the book off her to read it myself.

I like how the information was delivered in a simple, concise way. The fact that there are also relevant quotes throughout from authors, wildlife experts etc. was also appealing. The other thing that also impressed me was that each page has a recommended link so kids can go get more information - the geek in me loves anything that encourages kids to research further.

All in all, awesome book, I can see this being a great resource for Miss 4.5 in the not so distant future.

Are you ready for the ride of your life? "Killer Creatures" is a great little kids book that I think your child will find very interesting. The first thing I noticed when I saw this book was the eye-popping cover, it had a cool background thanks to the compass symbol, and I also liked the picture of the tiger, it actually looks like it's pouncing at me!

"Killer Creatures" was not too time-consuming, I could get it finished in just over a day, but believe me, it was worth reading. I think that the content is awesome, I now know a bit more information about Komodo Dragons, Piranhas, Scorpions, and other killers. The only disclaimer I have about this book is that some of the online links that can be found on almost every page were not available, but it's not major so I can do without them.

My favourite thing about the book is the 3D effect of some of the pictures; it almost made my jaw drop wide open! Not only will the information teach me about killer creatures, but it also tells me what to do if I, let's say, get bitten by a Sydney Funnel Web Spider. I will know to find a doctor quickly because the venom will kill me in under 2 hours!

I think that "Killer Creatures" is okay for kids 8-15 years old due to the fact that I don't see 5-year-olds reading this book; they could if they wanted to, but the safe-zone is still around 8-15 year-olds. If you enjoy learning about dangerous creatures, you'll love this book; so get a copy from your local bookstore today.
