With the bigger picture in mind, this book is for anyone who is feeling constantly tired, run down and lacking energy and vitality.
These two highly motivated Sydney doctors explain all aspects of the problem, from the medical causes of tiredness - depression, iron deficiency anaemia, thyroid disease, to the more common problems - lack of sleep, everyday stress, low libido, poor diet, lack of exercise, drugs and alcohol, to name a few. For those who do not have an existing medical condition, most can be easily cured and they provide practical, realistic goals for improvement and how to go about achieving them.

Being a Medical Herbalist, I freely admit I come from opposite ends of the spectrum to the doctors, and will often disagree with some of what doctors say. However, I was pleasently surprised to read this book.
Each section covered an area that is known to be a common cause of tiredness and fatigue in people - Stress, iron deficiency, smoking, too much coffee, throid problems and so on. Each chapter tells you the common causes, how to deal with the problem, offers simple advice and a case study to illustrate the points made. Sometimes it will tell you to see your doctor - in many cases, this is commonsense advice too.
The book seemed to be aimed primarily at women with men added in as an afterthought. I guess through the doctor's clinical experience, it has shown them that women are more likely to suffer from tiredness than men. From my own experience, women do seem to be the more health aware - often seeking advice on behalf of their male partners.
Coming from a complementary medicine, I was expecting more complementary medicines to be mentioned, and at one point one of the authors seemed a little dismissive of complementary medicine practitioners, despite one of them contributing to the Journal of Complementary Medicine, I say dismissive, but not outright anti-complementary medicines.
This is a useful little book for anyone wishing to explore reasons for their persistent tiredness, and will no doubt aid some people in adressing the problem, seeking help and maybe making the lifestyle changes necessary to bring about a better, more fulfilling and more energetic lifestyle.
Congratulations are offered to the doctors for broaching this little talked about subject.
