Mortality Doctrine 2 - The Rule of Thoughts product reviews

It's not a game any more.

Michael completed the Path. What he found at the end turned his life upside down. He thought he'd been helping VirtNet Security to track down the cyber-terrorist Kaine. He thought the VirtNet would be safe for gamers once more.

But the truth is more terrifying than he could ever have imagined. Kaine is in fact a Tangent, a computer program that has come alive. And Kaine's master plan is to populate the earth entirely with human bodies harboring Tangent minds.

Unless Michael can stop him...

The action-packed sequel to The Eye of Minds, this is a story you will want to follow along with closely. Like some literary crossbreed between The Matrix, eXistenZ and Inception, there are so many plot twists you'll start to wonder which reality is the digital one.

I am a little older... OK, quite a bit older, than the target demographic, but I am seriously loving this series so far. Plenty of intrigue, danger and thrills a-plenty, and a generous helping of mind-messing makes for a tale I can easily see myself re-reading every time a new title hits the shelves.

While I am not entirely sure the premise behind the story could spontaneously eventuate - I think it would require some really stupidly-brilliant human intervention - I do hope that the full-immersion virtual-reality technology does arrive within my lifetime. Having a full-sense VR hooked into a network of drone proxies would make for the most amazing virtual-tourist industry. A bit like Total Recall but without messing with your memories.

Overall, I think third is a series every teen geek would enjoy. My eldest son has started on the first book and is already quite hooked, and he's very picky about his tech-fiction so that's a great endorsement in my book.

Product reviews for listing 6017: Shards of Time
Written by Lynn Flewelling

Product image for Shards of TimeAcclaimed author Lynn Flewelling brings her beloved Nightrunners series to a close - at least for now - with a thrilling novel of murder, mystery, and magic.

The governor of the sacred island of Korous and his mistress have been killed inside a locked and guarded room. The sole witnesses to the crime - guards who broke down the doors, hearing the screams from within - have gone mad with terror, babbling about ghosts... and things ... more...
