My nephew have this back at home and I would say the first time he'd set his hand on this, he already managed to operate it right away.

What we love about this is it is very interactive as it gets my nephew's attention, as when the pen touches the words, it instantly tells you what the word is, and not only that it also gives you sounds as when the pen touches the pictures. It also has the read the whole story option. So I would say it is an easy way for the kids to learn. And it is also fun for adults to use this, as when I tried to trick the LeapPad book, like I point to the words in a quick manner, it also follows the pen very quick, so there's no way for the kid to misunderstand it.

So this is educationally fun. There are many story book to choose from, the one that my nephew had is Winnie the Pooh.

I would recommend this to mums who like to have a good value for their money and most especially the way their kids will learn from it.

This was a great step up from the leap products aimed at the younger audience. The pen is easy for the kids to hold and to operate. Its simple for kids to point the pen onto the books and the response is fast and clear.

We've only ever used the Leap Pad book that came with the pen (i.e. haven't bought others), but that's provided hours of entertainment for our boys aged between 3 and 6. Great way to get used to using a pen (i.e. developing fine motor skills)

Well what can I say? My daughter was given one of these awesome Leap Pad learning systems for her 3rd Birthday.

Its absolutely amazing. It teaches them word recognition, phonics, sounds, letters and much more.

There is a vast array of books suitable for all ages available for it.

It is now onto our nearly 5 year old son and he enjoys it.

The only downfall of it, is that we have been unable to obtain a replacement magic pen for it :(

Its one of the best purchases we have had for our children.

We love leap pad here. Lucky to get our from toyworld for half price, but even if we didnt get it on sale I would have been more than happy to pay full price for it.

The most simplest, easy to use toy and children, of all ages, and some adults too, really love these!

Our children (4, 8 and 10) sit and read the stories and do the activities sometimes for up to 2 hours. So with that in mind the batterys it actually came with lasted for a few months with daily use.

Ours has a soft padded cushion on the lap side meaning comfort, and at times a pillow for miss 4 when she just wanted a wee rest with her stories. There is a large varity of accessories/books to which is great, as we all know how easy some kids can get bored with the same stories.

The speaker is not obnoxious like some toys that you end up cellotaping over just to try and quiet it down a little bit.

I think our biggest problem would have to be the american accent. It made some of the words etc a little harder to understand as obviously over here we dont have the same accent.

All in all though... Brilliant and highly recommended.

From the minute I opened the box, I was impressed. This was a tidy, compact unit, with smooth curves and solid construction. Perfect for little hands.

The sample book that comes with it is very well designed, giving clear examples of the various styles and modes the unit can operate in. Because the unit is stylus, or electronic-pen, driven it is great for young and older alike to grasp the concepts of how it operates. Point-and-click, without the click.

Within about 20 minutes I had been shown just how clever this unit can be. From stories where almost everything on the page is an interactive element, right through to a playable piano keyboard. 'Spell the words', 'Sound the words', 'Read the words' are key options, and it seems to be common to find interactive and educational games embedded in various pages.

The cartridges make this possible. With the layout of each page containing positional codes to identify and reference the right information, every page becomes a set of highly flexible learning tools. I found myself very much looking forward to seeing the reaction from our 'volunteer audience member', aged 4½ years.

Overall, this has the power to become a great tool for helping a young education at home. With the range of plug-in books, this will be a great addition to any home educational library. Allowing you to focus on key areas, it has appeal to everyone.

*** ADDENDUM ***

Our Littlest Volunteer Tester got his hands on it this morning at 10am. By noon he had worked it all out, and was using it entirely on his own. By 6pm, he had to be bribed with a special dinner treat to put it away for the night. Count that as his Thumbs Up of Approval. :)
