Whether you're wanting just an overnight stop as you tour the North, or if you want to get into some of the country's best fishing, or if you're just looking for a ''get away from it all' time in a beautiful environment we know you'll enjoy your stay with us and no matter how long you stay we're sure that when you leave you'll be wishing you had more time!
Sited right on the waterfront we have powered and non-powered campervan, caravan, motorhome and tent sites, secluded or harbour view sites, a pet friendly area set aside for campers with pets, and cabins with fabulous views of the Houhora harbour entrance. Ok so the husband found us to stay up north when we went on holiday, we found this place as the cabins were only $50 a night we didn't really know what they looked like or anything until we got there, but for $50 you get what you pay for to be honest. It was nothing flash was a little room with a set of bunks, double at the bottom single on top, hubby and I shared the double and both kids shared the top.
Now to be fair it had a very lovely view, and if you planned your trip right you could get all the way up to the top of the north island do some fun around and drive ninety mile beach all on the same day and get back to the campground. I liked it was family friendly with lots of children about, the cabins had their own shared kitchen with the other cabins, were only 6 cabins all up, you had a fridge to share to store your food in. People were friendly.
The one thing we weren't too happy about is that EVERYTHING you had to pay for but we couldn't find that on their website and they only told us that once we got there, and sadly we didn't take more money with us than what we needed. Using the pool you had to pay $2 per person per day, that's a lot when you got 4 people and the pool was tiny, then it was $1 per shower, $3 to wash your clothes, $1 for the washing powder cause you had to use a certain one and then $3 to dry them, if you weren't staying long. When you are on a budget its a great place to get somewhere to stay but make sure you have extra money for every day you stay just in case.
There were plenty of toilets around, so their wasn't a shortage on that, one shower block which many showers including 3 family ones which was great for us as we only have young children. The kitchen was good it had everything you need, pots, pans, stove, cups, etc but next time we just need to remember to pack everything we need for each meal, even a tv.
I personally wouldn't go back into a cabin if we were to head there again, it would be a tent or caravan as they are bigger and the tents are as big as you provide.
