I had to go and stay in Hamilton for a week when I was studying with the University of Waikato and as at the time we didn't know anyone in Hamilton we needed to find an affordable place to stay for a week. My partner came with me as I wasn't confident driving to Hamilton so when we looked around it was going to be a really expensive week. On a search we came across the Alcamo and it was really cheap at under $100 a night at the time and as we were staying for a week they let us have a deal as well.
What had appealed to me was that they had an onsite restaurant and bar so we didn't have to go out every night and that the room we had booked had a spa bath. The only thing is the week we stayed the restaurant and bar were shut for the week so that didn't go completely to plan. The staff were really friendly though and gave us some information on different eatery in the area, so we did alright. The room had a kettle but as we were staying for a week they let us have a toaster in the room as well so that made things a lot easier as we at least didn't have to go out for breakfast every morning.
Now me and my partner are absolute clean freaks and when we arrived to our standards the room was far from clean so we went out and bought some dettol spray and wipe and cleaned all the bench surfaces and bathroom and even some strange footprints on the wall by the bed. When the room was serviced daily they did change all the bedding and replace all the cups and plates as there were no places for us to do our own dishes.
The spa bath was great at night when I got home from Uni and the room itself was cosy. It was quite a large room with a couch and television and then the bed so you didn't feel like you were in a shoe box.
I probably wouldn't stay there again as it wasn't as clean and luxurious as I would like it to be. When we were staying there there were also a lot of working girls staying at the hotel and the noise disturbance at night wasn't very pleasant especially being that I had early starts for Uni the next day.
