Product reviews...
When I had more daughter 2 years ago, I had hunted and hunted to find a wrap that would be suitable for her when she was born. Of course being a first time parent, I listened to what was told at antenatal classes and took this advice on what was best, using a basic cloth wrap (sheet) and wrapping her securely and snug in this. However with in a few months my little Houdini was able to get herself out of this style wrap in no time at all, and so was constantly waking up all through the night. Being exhausted from lack of sleep due to her getting out of the wrap I set off to the shops in search of something else, I wasn't sold on the 'swaddle me' style wraps thinking they were a bit peculiar with the arms up by the head, but quickly came across the Mum2Mum Dream Swaddle, and loved the whole security and story behind this. Though a little bit pricey it was definitely money well spent.
That night my daughter slept right through thanks to the amazing double wrap system which meant there was no getting out of this wrap! The double ended zip was perfect for those times when she did wake in the night due to a dirty nappy and made this easy and efficient without having to undress and rewrap. It also made going out of the house a breeze with when she was asleep as the Mum2Mum dream swaddle fitted through the belt in her car seat, which meant there was no need to wake or disturb her from her sleep, another dream function of this swaddle that I had not before had the luxury of experiencing.
As an early childhood teacher who works with babies (and has done for the past 10 years) I would definitely recommend this product to other parents, and have done so in the past. Many parents often come in and talk about their struggles to get their babies to sleep and about all the wraps and swaddles they have come across with no success, and a result of a waste of money. But with the dream swaddle I have seen so many results with sleeping babies both based on stories from home and also from my experiences in the centre. With 3 different sizes available these are able to used until your baby is able to sleep on there own with a wrap of swaddle.
Definitely recommend this product and will be using again with my next child.
When I had my three children many years ago lol I do not know if there were things like this available. I would imagine there possibly may have been. Not necessarily these ones, but something similar. However for me and my children, I followed in the footsteps of my mother. They were wrapped in a good old fashion cloth nappy. Ideal when they were newborn. Not so ideal after a month or so when they not only grew bigger but also became more active and more interested in their surroundings. But we persevered and got through those early months of wrapping with minimal fuss and just a handfull of wrap problems.
When both my little sisters became pregnant with their first babies within weeks of each other. Being the super cool sister (and soon to be Aunty) that I am, I immediately began shopping for reallt cool things I could gift to them. One of the first items I purchased for each of them was a Mum2Mum dream swaddle, among some other beautiful Mum2Mum items.
The Mum2Mum dream swaddle is awesome. They are so beautifully soft. Such amazing quality and gorgeously made. And whats even better is they are easy to use, and theres no concerns that they will go over babies face or around their neck while baby is sleeping (which happens so very often with cloth nappies). Both my sisters loved their Mum2Mum dream swaddles and were forever thanking me for them. They both saud they are easy to use and baby is kept nice and snug and warm and comfy in their wrap. I definitely recommend these :)
I bought one of these dream swaddles when I had my first child after spending 2 months trying (and failing) to wrap her up with just some muslin cloth. I could never get the hang of the muslin cloth and she would always break free and consequently would never have a good nap, waking within the hour. After I bought the dream swaddle I put my daughter in it using the extremely simple to understand instructions and she slept for a whole 3 hours!!!
I've just had my second child now and before I had him I sourced 2 more of these wraps at great prices on special at Farmers. I have been using them from day one pretty much and he has been sleeping a solid 6-8 hours since he was 4 weeks old. I definitely have the dream swaddle to thank for at least a portion of that sleep. It's been a lifesaver in my house and I strongly recommend everyone at least give it a go if they are struggling with other sleep wraps or babies waking themselves up.
One of the best features of this particular swaddle is that there is a double zip which means you can unzip the bottom to change the diaper in the middle of the night. As most people who have had babies know, this is an important feature as newborns like to mess their diapers a lot, if not every feed.
There are two different sizes to fit babies who generally need to be swaddled, the small fits 3.17kg-6.35kg and the large fits from 6.8kg-9.98kg. Although I did find that I had to move my son into the large when he was only 5.5kg because he was quite long and it didn't take length into consideration.
The only downside that I can think of with this dream swaddle is the velcro closure on top. If the whole swaddle needs changing in the middle of the night due to unmentionable reasons then undoing the velcro takes a little bit of effort and is quite noisy so if your baby wasn't already awake they definitely will be when you try to remove the swaddle.
Aside from the small flaw of velcro, the Mum2Mum Dream Swaddle is the best swaddle I have tried and I, for one, will not being using anything else and I recommend them to all my friends with babies.
When my son was born I wasn't the best at swaddling so I used to get my partner to do it, Cai liked to be swaddled quite tightly and would only sleep if he was wrapped up. As a newborn we just used a muslin cloth but as he got a bit bigger and more active it got harder and harder to keep him securely wrapped.
I bought one of these on special from farmers I had never used one before but liked the idea of having a specifically designed swaddle rather than having to wrap using a muslin. I wasn't really sure how to use it at first but the packet gives visual instructions that make it easy to learn how to use it. You pretty much put them inside wrap the flaps around their arms and secure under their body and then do up the zip and pull the outside flaps around and secure with the velcro.
Because it wraps the arms by the side they are really secure and can't move a lot. I thought this seemed really unnatural but when swaddled like this my son would have a really peaceful all night sleep. We used to call it his straight jacket as that is what it looked like when he was all swaddled up. The double ended zip is great if they do wake in the night as you can change their nappy without having to get them out of the swaddle so it is really low fuss during the night.
The only thing I found with these was that the velcro got a lot of fluff inside it and then became quite hard to secure tightly after a while which was really annoying. I thought it might be better with pop closures or something but then you probably wouldn't be able to pull it in so tight so perhaps a good idea to wash in a delicates bag or handwash too prevent fluff build up. I also recommend having at least two to be able to rotate when washing.
