Product reviews...
When these first came out I couldn't not buy them, they looked like one of those marvelous inventions that was to good to be true, and best of all they were meant for helping to keep your toilet cleaner with less work, a win-win situation in my books as cleaning the toilet is not my favourite of jobs I must admit, and with Duck being a brand I know and love I was keen to see how these worked out.
The duck fresh discs are really easy to use (though I must admit it did take me some time to get the dispenser sorted and working right lol). You simply remove the plastic cap each time you want to use the discs, press the end of the dispenser up against the inside of the toilet bowl just below the rim and pull back the trigger to the next notch and carefully release the dispenser from up against the toilet. This leaves a nice flower shaped spot of gel on the inside of the toilet bowl, which is blue in colour and small enough to be quite discrete and quite unnoticeable to many people I'm sure!
Although I don't feel that the discs have much of a smell, I have noticed that they have made my toilet look noticeably cleaner around the bowl each time I flush, you can tell these are actually effective and are doing a job at helping to break down scum and stains each time you flush as you get small bubbles on the surface of the water each time you do so. However obviously due to the nature and purpose of this product you do still need to give your toilet a good clean each week, or however often you usually clean your toilet as these aren't for such purposes, but more so to aid this and help make it easier.
They are quite a costly product, however they are something that I do purchase if I see them on special, one disc tends to last a few weeks at my house but this would probably vary depending on how many people you live with and how often the toilet is used, a great product worth trying.
Well I use to use the tablets that you put in your fresh water on top of the toilet, but that would change all water blue or green depending on what colour you used and after hearing that water is safe to drink if you even run out of water or in a situation where you couldn't leave your house, I rethought this idea of tablets.
I love having a clean toilet and would clean it every night while kids were in the bath or shower then I knew it was done, but since having my boy learn to stand and pee he would miss all the time, I tried so many things to get him to keep pee in the toilet not on my floor and the seat. I them spotted these in the supermarket just sitting their telling me that they are great so picking up a packet and reading the back a few things ticked off my list. Clean, don't have to touch the toilet, don't have to touch a tablet and leaves the toilet clean after each flush.
They come with easy instructions and it really is easy to use. I put it altogether and using the applicator I put a disk into the toilet sticking it to the bowl. It worked for a little while getting my son peeing right and it was cleaning the toilet leaving it good, until my children decided they wanted to play with it, so would poke the disk and push it off the side of the bowl so it lasted not even a week which gutted me. So I put it on the ensuite toilet and it lasted about 3-4 weeks.
I was happy that I didn't have to get dirty with it all or even touch the toilet cause I hate that kinda thing, wasnt happy that my kids thought this was a new toy in the toilet so have had to stop using it in their bathroom which happens to be the main bathroom my guests use. I use it in my toilet but sometimes I find it starts to look like its melting away and makes the toilet look messy so I have to brush it away, so that doesn't work for me. overall I will carry on using them just for the pure fact of it helps me clean the toilet. As for kids, I'm not really sure I would use it again in their bathroom while they are young in the fear they actually decided its great in the mouth.
I have quite a thing for keeping my toilet clean I usually clean it on a daily basis mostly out of habit but also to keep it looking clean and smelling fresh. I have always used the duck products as I like the easy to use bottles and because I have just used duck as long as I can remember so know the product well.
I had in the past used the duck toilet freshners which you hang on the side of the toilet but stopped using them as they always ended up looking dirty. Plus my son would pull them off and in most cases put them down the toilet. With these fresh discs he can't see they are there as I hide them so I have been enjoying that. The best thing is I don't have to touch the toilet to apply them as the applicator makes it so you can apply without having to touch the toilet itself.
They are quite effective in that every time you flush the toilet you can see the bubbles and smell the fresh scent although I don't think we got anywhere near 12,000 flushes out of each disc. In any case I would much rather buy these than some of the other products on the market and I find the bowl stays looking clean even if I don't get in and give it a good scrub with the brush every day.
When these came out I had to try them. The only housework I stick to religiously is cleaning the toilet and bathroom. So anything that is going to cut down my efforts is going to be appreciated. I generally buy Duck products, regardless of cost. Its a brand I know and trust.
The fresh discs come in a box with two tubes of the fresh discs gel and an applicator. There are a couple of things I love about this product. Firstly, the applicator is really easy to load. It has a push button mechanism that allows you to move the tube down as you apply the gel. This then loads it ready for next time as well.
The other thing I love is that I don't really have to touch the toilet at all. The thing is, I love the toilet hangers and the affect they have on my toilet and the fragrance. But I hate touching the toilet, and refills are disgusting to put in. The fresh discs work for me because I only have to apply from a distance.
These don't last the 16 weeks or so suggested on the box. I'd be lucky to get 4 weeks out of them, but we are a family of four with a child who loves to flush the toilet. That hasn't really put me off buying these though and I get a refill box every couple of months to keep us going.
