Introducing Greencane Ecopaper Toilet Paper - the toilet roll that's kinder to the environment.
Unlike most toilet papers, which have a pine timber pulp base, Greencane Ecopaper have spent years looking for a more sustainable way to meet your needs, without causing harm to our environment. The result; toilet tissue that's tough, soft to the touch and requires no forests to be cut down.
Greencane Ecopaper Toilet Paper is made using sugarcane; a tropical grass grown commercially in over 200 countries. The current world supply of sugarcane is believed to be at a mature stage which would result in no additional demand for expansion.
When harvested, sugarcane is crushed to remove the sugar, leaving behind a fibrous residue which is recycled into a pulp suitable for paper making.
• 100% biodegradable
• 300 sheets of 2-ply per rollsoft to the touchequally effective as tree-based products
• Cost comparable

Product reviews...
I discovered the Greencane toilet paper fairly recently while browsing online for eco-friendly household and hygiene products. I discovered you can order a regular shipment of their range of products to you door which automatically renews at frequency suited to your family's requirements. I then decided to give it a go as it sounded like a good alternative to 'mainstream' toilet paper products.
I must admit that despite it being only 2-ply as opposed to the 3-ply I am used to buying, it is actually very gentle and absorbent and therefore quite economical too. I could easily say it is no worse than most toilet paper products I tried in the past (some of which were considerably more expensive). I must also admit that the eco-credentials of this product are also very appealing as I am actively seeking products which don't cost the earth. I love the fact that it is sustainably produced and 100% biodegradable. This also includes the packaging which is compostable .
I would definitely recommend the product as an environment and family friendly alternative to regular toilet paper. It offers all the benefits of regular, tree- based product without harming the environment. It also comes with a decent price point which is a bonus.
If anyone had told me I would be wiping my backside with sugarcane, and would NOT be screaming in pain about splinters... I probably would have asked them if their meds were up to date. Even knowing that bamboo - a close cousin of sugarcane - has been used in the production of paper-type products for centuries, I can honestly say that the waste products from sugarcane extraction would not have been high on my list of alternatives, and certainly never on the list of viable toilet-paper production raw materials!
Frankly, in hindsight I can't see why this hasn't been in full swing for decades! The amount of sugarcane grown and harvested is enormous - over 1 billion tonnes each year! If even a tenth of that can be salvaged and converted to paper, that gives us a still-impressive 10 million tonnes each and every year. So... why do we need to chop down trees for this again?
So, if this paper soft? Sure is, no sandpapered-cheeks here. I found it actually far superior to at least two other "extra soft" brands that I bought especially to compare it against. Was it tough? Reasonably. I wouldn't say it's "finger poke-through"-proof so a little care need be taken, but for a 2-ply it was quite impressive actually. Tough enough to hold under the most rigorous testing we could come up with and still remain within the bounds of "reasonable realistic use". It even did fairly well when moistened under the tap and used to clean a grubby 4yr old male face after spaghetti-&-eggs for dinner.
Overall, I was very impressed. Eco-wise it scores a huge green tick simply for it's smart use of an otherwise mostly-wasted resource. I can't comment on what happens to it chemically, but as it's 100% biodegradable and has no identifiable extra ingredients that trigger warning flags, I'd have to say it's a serious contender and should certainly be tried to be believed! It's no 40-rolls-for-$10 stuff... but then, that cheap stuff is closer to 200-grade sandpaper than it is to toilet-paper!
