I would like to commend Britt Martin for his cover work on this and the other Boy vs Beast books. The cover pictures are eye catching, interesting, intriguing and grab your attention (yes even mine) and this important for boys when it comes to books. My boys were all impressed with the cover pictures on these books, and even though they are older than the age I would say would suit these, the covers were interesting enough to make them want to read the books.

We were given 3 of these little easy to read book; Battle of the mega mutants - Chillterratan, Torlavasaur and Battle files - Air. I say little because each book is under 100 pages in length, in fact they are all around 75 pages long, and they have large text making them easy to read and short enough that even those boys who are not huge readers can finish these books easily and quickly.

Chilliterratan is like the other books, Kai needs help and must build a team. As it is one of a series it may have helped understand if we had read the first books in the series. But even with a lack of understanding my boys still enjoyed reading it and discussed bits of it afterwards, then proceeded to play a game along similar lines of the story line.

I love when they read books that fuels their imaginations and results in games like this one has done. books that do this always get high praise from me, as it means the author has captured a child's imagination and wrote a story that they (the kids) really can relate too, whether it be out of this world or not. And it would seem Mac Park has achieved just that with Chilliterratan. And for the price, you really can not go wrong.

We read this book last night before bed. The cover art, like most of the books in this series is pretty impressive. It shows the beasts having a battle. The beasts look colourful and scray and you can see the different elements they are made up of.

Inside the book, the language is fairly simple. Each page is super quick to read and we got through the book with me reading in approximately 15 minutes. I did find the sentences to be a little clumsy, and I tripped up a few times on the names of the beasts and equipment.

I found the illustrations inside of the book to be pretty boring. The exception being during the battles when the book becomes a graphic novel or comic book style. This carries on for a couple of pages and really helps you feel the urgency of the battle. Both my daughter and I liked those pages the best.

I think this is the type of book, you need to read from book 1 and carry through. I was a bit lost with all the terminology. However, as this was the second Boy vs Beast book I have read, I wasn't as lost as the first time I picked one up.

Because of the subject and the simple language in the book, I would say this would be a great book for a 5 - 7 year old boy. It would encourage reading, while being a subject matter that is exciting and cool. It reminded me of a couple of cartoons I have seen on TV in the mornings, so would tie in nicely.
