Product reviews...
An interesting taste to this one, but still I found it drinkable, however it does pay to read the directions on the can first (especially the bit about inverting/shaking the can before drinking), as this can lead to a bit of a strong aftertaste, however after reading the instructions and giving the can a bit of a mix up the taste was much more even through out.
While most energy drinks out now days don't really do anything for me this one did give me a bit of a pick me up which is always a nice thing to have.
I almost managed to get the whole way through a shot but only managed a mouthful of the carbonated version before feeling quite ill. I am sure this stuff is healthy - it sounds like it has a lot of good things piled into it - but the level of sweetener is way to high for me or anyone in my family. It reminds me of that horrible old medicine you were forced to drink as a kid, sweet, thick and smelling strongly of orange esters.
Perhaps super sweet works for the American market, but unfortunately, it doesn't do much for my family.
To start with, not knowing how much these things cost normally I am not too sure how to score that one so I am assuming the price is around the same as most other specialist suppliment drinks. That score may or may not reflect accurately but it is the best I can do at the time of writing.
I was given the 'standard' type of fizzy in a can and a couple of the 'shots' to trial and review. A few years ago I was trying to get myself out of 'nightowl' shift and was a great believer in the mighty powers of a berocca breakfast which means the strong B-vitamin taste of this drink wasnt as overpowering as it may be for others. And it is a strong taste kind of like chalky orange juice.
The fizzy drinks werent too bad. No worse than many of the UNhealthy versions out there in shop minifridges and on supermarket shelves. After a couple of days of having a can with breakfast I did find I had more energy than was usual for me and was even OK waking up 2 hours earlier than my normal time to cope with an increased travel time with the new job. However the downside for me was a little tougher to describe in a public forum. Enough to say that my body wasnt too happy with the newest addition to breakfast and made sure I got rid of it as quickly as possible. Doing the 'I gotta go' dance on a crowded morning bus makes for tense passengers.
I am not too sure if I will continue to drink this stuff. Though I had no problems with it I will admit the taste wasnt what I would consider drinking frequently and the thicker texture of the 'shot' was not high on my list of 'drinks I want to feel in my mouth first thing in the morning'. I will stick to coffee thanks.
I really enjoyed this drink. Firstly i tried the Verve shot - and loved it! The shot is quite thick but not gluggy, mainly like there was pulp from the fruit in it. It tasted strongly of a tropical flavour. The smell reminded me of Berrocca.
This was very easy to drink, however after having the shot, i could feel it still in my throat and has a sickly sweet feeling for 5 mins afterwards. As i tried this drink mid afternoon, i definately felt an energy kick. I didn't feel tired at all. Even when it came to bed time, my body was still awake and ready to face more of the day. However i told my body it was bedtime, and didn't have a problem getting to sleep.
I really like the fact it has vitamins and minerals, and am intrigued that is made with Organic decaffinated Green Tea. A very healthy drink indeed.
The only thing i was unimpressed with was the wrap on the outside didn't come off the product easily so the plastic wrap stayed on the bottle lid. Also the easy peel seal was unimpressive. It was easy peel, the tag peeled off so easily from the seal that i needed a knife to pop a hole to drink it. Apart from that a very nice drink!
I have also tried the can of Verve. The non sugar free version. This was also nice, but not as nice as the shot. I personally prefer drinks like this to not be carbonated. I found the Can harder to drink as i don't drink fizzy drinks fast.
The cans/shots are packaged in an appealling way, however the nutrition information on the back of the product is the American based information. It lists the ingredients on the percentage of daily intake and the serving of the product, where as New Zealand products are labelled by the per serving amount of the product, and per 100g.
Overall, it is a great new product to the market of energy drinks, and a healthy alternative to the other ones on the market.
I quite liked this drink, I tired the verve can first and oh my gosh it was really nice. Once I had a few sips and got use to the taste of passionfruit and of Berocca it was really nice. I was real happy and energized all night long and couldn't get to sleep.
The can looked very appealing to me as the colour caught my eye. I'm not a big healthy energy person but I'd buy this one for sure.
I then tried the verve shot a few days later and was feeling ill after as it is quite thick and lumpy. The smell does remind me of Berocca. I spat it out as my body didn't agree with it. I had a horrible taste in my mouth which tasted like I had burnt my tounge!
