To be honest, I am always a bit sceptical of goods advertised on TV during the 'informercial hours' when the birds are starting to wake up and I am starting to fall asleep... I have always thought "If it's THAT good, why isn't it sold in mainstream stores?!" and yet... it seems there ARE diamonds to be found amongst the mud.

This is one of those diamonds.

The PainGone pen is a nifty little device... basically a small piezo-electric crystal and charge-discharge circuit sealed inside a sturdy plastic case. About 13cm long and about 2cm in diameter, the unit fits easily into the hand, thin enough to grab comfortably yet thick enough for those with arthritic fingers to still keep a solid grip on. It is also small enough to carry easily where ever you go, in your purse or jacket pocket. The pressure required to push the plunger with your thumb isn't excessive, yet flexes the piezo-electric crystals perfectly well, releasing a strong discharge of current.

When pressed firmly into the affected area, about 6 or 7 jolts is plenty to trigger an endorphin release in the brain, blocking out the pain for around half an hour, give or take depending on the actual injury. This is a short term solution to mask the pain only, it is not a cure or long-term solution. if you have any internal surgical wiring, such as a pacemaker, I would strongly suggest you consult your health specialist before trying this unit, just to be on the safe side.

Ever since a rather over-enthusiastic game of Splatterzone a few years ago, I have had trouble with the tendons in my left knee, which will often flare up into stabbing pains for about an hour or two before the anti-inflammatories kick in. I thought this would be worth a try, even if it is, in effect, electro-shock therapy on a tiny scale. So, when my knee gave another of it's daily spasms, instead of heading for the medicine cabinet, I reached for the PainGone instead.

A dozen quick clicks into the soft tissues around the kneecap and within seconds, my brain was being flooded with all-natural, internally produced happy chemicals, masking the pain. Half an hour later, another 3 or 4 clicks topped up the dosage. This was repeated every half an hour for about 3 hours, by which time my knee had settled down of it's own accord. This was a great relief for me, as I hate the idea of stuffing my body full of synthetic pharmceuticals. The body makes what the body needs.

Overall, I found this little gizmo to be a total wonder, one that I will take everywhere with me, especially on long journeys. In fact, I think I'll be buying another one to leave permanently in the car. As an added bonus, because it is a tiny lightning spark generator, you can have a lot of fun with the kids demonstrating how electric charge can jump gaps. And if all else fails, you could probably use it to light the gas stove in an emergency. LOL Icon Wink Icon
