Saving the World- One Homework Assignment At A Time.

Will Stronghold is full of teen angst about friends, grades, and girls... in other words, Will is just another suburban teen about to start high school. If that isn't enough to deal with, Will has the added pressure of being the third generation of the Stronghold family to attend the esteemed and celebrated Sky High.

This elite high school is entrusted with the responsibility of moulding today's power-gifted students into tomorrow's superheroes. The only problem- Will is starting his freshman year without any super powers of his own.

Labelled a sidekick, Will is bullied by the jock with the power to stretch, humiliated by a kid with super speed, stalked by the outcast who shoots fire from his hands, and teased by the cheerleader who can replicate herself into an entire cheer squad.

If you appreciate a good-natured dig-to-the-ribs at every superheroe movie you've ever seen... this is the one you are looking for. In the same ballpark as The Incredibles, this movie has it's own storyline, but is also a humorous dig at all the superhero movies that took themselves a little too seriously. This means that when you sit down to watch Sky High, you'll not only have a goog giggle at the actual jokes, but you can also have a little chuckle at the way they rip off the mainstream comic heroes.

Not only is this a tale of one boy's journey from powerless nobody to superpowered hero, it is also a story of how someone's social status can change their lives in unexpected ways, and how friendships should, but don't always, survive the shift that comes when someone moves beyond their current social status. When Will Stronghold's power manifest, after he has been designated a Sidekick, his whole world is changed and his friendships start to stretch thin...

There are a lot of levels to this movie, most of which could be viewed as metaphors for a lot of every day social situations that affect teenagers the world over. Situations such as a secret crush on someone who has eyes only for someone else, friendships that fade as the glory of your achievements grow, dealing with awkward parental confrontations, etc. It also highlights that your strongest support can come from those who, at first glance, seem least able to provide it.

Overall, this movie is quite suitable for the kids to watch, with plenty of superhero stuff and special effects, but also a good movie for young adults, with plenty for the thoughtful viewer to think on. If you are looking for a really broad-spectrum-appeal movie, this is the one for you.
