Puzzle Inc. - vol 1 product reviews

From the popular TV2 series, this first of two volumes features a set of colourful and loveable shapes, each with their own distinct personalities.

Circles, squares, triangles, rectangles and stars come to life to solve puzzles while introducing our young viewers to the basics of shape, colour, maths, physics and creativity. At first their attempts are comical and clumsy but through trial and error, and with plenty of humour, our shapes always get it right in the end.

I would have assumed, before I actually watched this with my 6 year old son, that it would only appeal to kids aged 4 and under... so it was quite a shock to find my son asking if he could put this one on, when we had a 'rainy stay-inside day' today.

Starting off with some simple, basic shape matching, and progressing to more complicated shapes and puzzles, this DVD has something to amuse anyone! I'm not exactly a kid any more, but I found myself laughing and clapping along with my son as the shapes solved the puzzles and built their fantastic shapes, danced in synchronised choreography, and basically went a little crazy in a fun way.

Our favourite episode, from the 13 on the disc, would have to be #9, "Animal Antics"... this was just hilarious for my son, and I was impressed with the degreee of animation that it took to do it all, and how seamless it was made to appear. Yet another fine example of Kiwi's leading the way in digital animation. Eat ya heart out, Weta Workshops! LOL Icon

Overall, a real winner, and great value for all ages. Any kid under 10 has a fair shot at finding this entertaining, and if they do, keep it handy over winter to help keep them happy and occupied while you go make a meal, deal with a bit of overdue work, or just grab some P&Q time to catch up on some reading. It's fun, and educational, and 100% fat-free. Wink Icon

For lighthearted entertainment for the kids, with a little bit of subtle learning folded in for good measure, this is a great dvd. The animations are really well done, and the shapes get up to all sorts of antics trying to fit in, balance, co-operate and in all ways team up to solve the problems they face. With appeal for all age groups, from the tiny wee kiddies being entertained by the shapes and bright colours bouncing around, through to young school children learning about the concepts of lateral thinking, problem solving and co-operation. With 13 of the 5-minute shows on the one disc you have over an hour of edutainment for your kids. You would be hard-pressed to find something more fun and educational for under $20. And the best bit, it's all 100% Kiwi. Grin Icon
