My only way to start the day is with a strong coffee.so I was excited to see that this Movenpick from Switzerland Intenso coffee was an intensity 8. Each pod is only one shot so I knew I would probably be starting my day with two pods (if I liked them that is). The box is great with a perforated opening and the capsules are nicely stored with no wasted space. The capsules are a different colour so when I poured them in to my capsule container I can pick them out depending on what I want.
As these area single shot I did use two. The flavour is very intense and slightly bitter. I don't like the bitterness but I do really like the strength and the crema is perfect if you want to take a shot without milk. I love my coffee white so two shots with some frothy milk is the perfect way for me to start the day. I really love this coffee and it is my new favourite coffee for my morning fix.
My only wish is that this was available instore as I prefer to buy my coffee in my weekly shop rather than going online and ordering a large amount. I do like this brand so much though tat I may find myself buying online just so I get my fix as I do really like this.
It took me a little longer to try this product as usually a "very strong coffee" is not my thing. I have to say this is the product to turn that around for me. I was apprehensive that I would find a lot of bitterness which was not the case. The aroma was good - not to overpowering. Most of the flavour was in the taste not the smell. It was strong but it was not harsh or bitter. I loved the strength and I added hot water after I tasted it but that is my preference so the coffee lasts a lot longer as stays hot.
I liked the packaging as it fitted nicely in the pantry and the coloured capsules were helpful to identify them if they went rogue or someone opened the box. I found it was a lovely coloured coffee and because I don't add milk or sugar this was a pretty intense taste - like it says on the box.
I am happy to have this product as my first coffee of the day and I think you will not be disappointed. Probably best not saved for after dinner. These capsules were definitely a hit in our house and we have finished them over the Christmas period with a few guests who wanted "a real pick me up" and I am definitely buying more.
When it comes to coffee this is where I show my fussiness because there is nothing like an excellent cup of coffee in the mourning. It can be the crucial moment between starting your day off well or putting you in a bad mood early on. I am pleased to say that Movenpicks Intenso espresso has a satisfying bold coffee flavour which I feel is the deciding point between a good coffee and a bad coffee as I have had my share of bland weak coffees. Black coffee is the only way I drink coffee because I am of the opinion that adding milk just dilutes the coffee flavour too much for me so this coffee is absolutely perfect.
I've never really seen eye to eye with the small 40ml espresso drinks so I used two pods to make a 120ml drink and added one teaspoon of sugar to just take the edge away from the bitterness. This has now become my go-to morning ritual before work to start the day on a good note. But my favourite way to enjoy this coffee is with two shortbread biscuits as I feel the flavours just match so perfectly. The different coloured pods are handy if you store all your variety of pods together so you can easily distinguish which pod you are looking for. I also like the packaging as it is a sophisticated looking black box with hints of gold writing. The easy to tear open tab on the front makes it so easy to access the coffee.
To sum it up this is a fantastic coffee with a rich bold flavour that has a slight bitterness which is perfect for any occasion where coffee is needed. I have now added these as my go-to coffee before work and will continue to use them. I recommend them to any coffee lover to give them a try as it could be your favourite coffee but you just don't know it yet.
Black coffee - my favourite drink (as long as it is the real thing and not the instant variety.) I took this pack round to my friends' house as they have a Nespresso machine, so we opted to trial it together over the course of a day. We tried it first as a plain coffee, served exactly as suggested with the machine set at medium (8) to make a 40 ml drink. With this we served a dark chocolate after dinner mint, which set it off to perfection. (This amount was fine for a small coffee, but we thought it might be better to make two brews if a longer drink were needed - each capsule is equivalent to one shot.)
I liked the way that the capsules are colour coded so you can tell them apart if you have more than one variety on hand. The capsule colour is printed on the pack information so if you mix two strengths in one jar you can check with the original packaging for the instructions. Quite important as the strength varies considerably!
Since this product is made with 100% Arabica beans, it has the smoothness and strength that is to be expected from this source. It delivers a fairly strong coffee, so we tried it next drizzled over vanilla ice-cream with a blob of whipped cream for good measure. Luckily there were no children around but if there had been I would have substituted something else for the coffee to top their servings as this is absolutely an adults-only product.
One person decided to try it Turkish-style with lots of sugar. I tasted his drink but it was not quite right. The coffee, strong as it was, needed to be more concentrated. Maybe a 10? I understand Movenpick to make a variety that is at this intensity, so I would like to try it at some time in the future. Now that my interest in the product range has been engaged, I would be happy to sit down with this friend and repeat the Turkish coffee experiment!
Personally, I think it would be sacrilege to add milk or sugar to this product (although I would make an exception for the Turkish coffee idea). There is plenty of flavour for the coffee connoisseur, without the accompanying bitterness that sometimes manifests in stronger brews. I do intend at some stage to try it with a pinch of chilli powder and a shot of dark chocolate syrup, but without the ingredients on hand I have not yet had the chance to see how it would pan out as a mocha. That is a plan for next time!
