Product reviews...
Seeing this apple blossom air freshener up for review I just had to request it. Knowing that Earthwise make some amazing eco-friendly products I knew that it would be a good one to try. For me I was also hoping for an extra bonus of finding an air freshener I can actually use. We always have an aerosol can of spray in the toilet, but it barely gets used simply because many of them make me sneeze and can cause a headache. I would rather the smell of someone having gone to the toilet than having one of my awful headaches that can put me out for a day or two sometimes.
The bottle is very simple and fits the product well, it also fits very well into the Earthwise range as all of their bottles are the same - simple, effective but colour coded to help with the identification of different products. Wanting to try the spray out I needed to spin the little lock around. I noticed that the lock is able to be reclosed again - which is fantastic. I don't have children in my house, but have always worried when our friends children come around about the aerosol cans because once they are open to spray, you can't lock them again. The fact that you can lock this again means it is safe if it falls into the wrong hands (unless of course they can figure out how to unlock it!).
Spraying the spray I was pleasantly surprised with the scent, and loved that it sprayed easily. The spray fell down, as gravity makes it do, but it didn't feel awful and funnily dry and sticky like aerosol sprays can. The scent certainly masked the unpleasant smell well, and the best bit was I never got a headache from it! The Earthwise air fresheners will definitely be on my shopping list from now on!
We currently use most of the Earthwise range throughout the house so was very eager to give the Apple Blossom Air Freshener a go. I turned the nozzle to the spray position on the bottle and pulled the trigger 2-3 times as stated on the instructions on the back I then had a good smell around where I was standing and could smell the most delicious, refreshing apple scent all around me. The apple scent was strong and refreshing. I then took the air freshener and left it on the toilet cistern.
After my children had used the toilet, I sprayed a couple of sprays of the air freshener and to my surprise, I could no longer smell any unpleasant odours. I used to buy aerosol Air fresheners and now I would never buy them again, they're not good for the environment and packaged up in a non-recyclable metal tin. The Earthwise Air Freshener is packaged in a fully recyclable 250ml plastic bottle, which is see-through so you can see exactly how much spray you have left.
Over the past week, I have sprayed the air freshener daily in multiple rooms to cancel out bad odours and find it works quickly and effectively to cancel out the bad smells. I also found the apple scent doesn't hang around too long. Being a wet spray I was cautious of slipping on the spray residue on the lino or sitting on a wet toilet seat due to spray residue. But this is no the case at all, it left no wet residue wherever it was sprayed so that is awesome.
I feel this product is well priced at $4.99 for a New Zealand product that we know and trust. I've been using the Air Freshener multiple times a day with generous sprays and still have plenty left so will probably last months in some households. I would definitely recommend the Earthwise Air Freshener in the Apple Blossom scent and I look forward to trying the other 3 flavour's of air fresheners by Earthwise in the future.
We always have a can of air freshener in the toilet, although I'm sure I'm the only one that uses it. The toilet is straight across hall from my bedroom so in the evening when I am unwinding or trying to sleep I don't want to smell anything unpleasant. Most air fresheners come in an aerosol which is bad for the environment both while in use and disposing of the empty can. I was pleased to see that Earthwise had a range of air fresheners that used a pump action trigger in a recylcable bottle (even for those of us in Hamilton that only recycles a few types of plastic).
When I first used the spray I had to pump the trigger a few times to get it to spray. I thought that this would be off putting to some people but thankfully this was just an initial problem and it has worked immediately everytime since. It is handy to note that the trigger has a lock on it which is great for transporting it or to stop your toddler from wasting it. The bottle is see through which means you know how much is left in the bottle. The level hasn't gone down after three days of regular use so I suspect it will last a very long time.
I found the apple scent to be refreshing and quite pleasant. It really did smell like someone had just bitten into an apple. It wasn't a strong over powering scent like many air fresheners but it did help to hide the toilet odours. It also made a nice change from all the flowery air fresheners on the market and would be well suited in the kitchen. As with other Earthwise products it is one I am happy to have in my home.
Frangipani, Sweet Tangerine, Wild Lavender, and Apple Blossom. Honestly not the most masculinely named scents. That being said, products targeted towards men usually aren't descriptively named; wildfire, cool breeze, adventure, everest, vice, or power, are some good examples that don't tell you what they smell like at all). But Apple Blossom is probably the manliest sounding scent of the four; probably because of how common the apple is.
I like the packaging; a recyclable bottle, that is translucent so you can tell how full it is and properly monitor your usage (aerosol cans always work until they just stop without warning. All or nothing). The bottle is reasonably small but holds a good cup full of liquid, so it will last a while, but won't take up too much space. The spray bottle comes with a lock, so you can stop the bottle from spraying if you were to transport it somewhere, and not have to worry about leaks. I have actually transported the bottle maybe 7 times in the last two weeks, as I stay between two houses currently, and it hasn't leaked once.
Honestly, it doesn't really smell too much like apple to me, there are some slight notes that linger, that have a little apple vibe to them, but mostly it just smells quite sweet. That is really all I wanted when I saw the apple flavour. So often people attempt to make an apple scented product and it ends up with a funk of a scent that resembles a slowly rotting apple. But this product has a light sweet smell to it.
The scent has a limited range, and to cover up any bad smells, you really need to do quite a few sprays. But as the product has an atomizer, it only uses a very small amount of product each time you spray. The smell also doesn't last too long, but it lasts long enough that any bad odours have been neutralized or diluted enough that you don't notice it anymore.
Earthwise have become a bit of a brand name in our house, due to all of the amazing products which we have been lucky enough to try out through KIWIreviews they are pretty much all we will buy now when it comes to cleaning products. So when I saw that yet again Earthwise had added some more products to there already incredible selection I couldn't wait to try them out, even more so when I found that the air fresheners came in fruity scents, instead of the usual flowery scents! I absolutely love the scent of apples, to me they always just smell so fresh, clean and crisp so this is something I couldn't wait to spray throughout my house.
The air freshener comes in a cute little bottle which holds 250mls of liquid, the design is simplistic but it also stands out, I loved the colours used the dark green was the perfect colour for a apple scented product, and I loved reading the history behind Earthwise, and was interested to see that Earthwise in fact started up in 1967 in Orini, which is very close to where I work. The directions for use were very clear, shake, turn the trigger lock to open and then spray 2-3 sprays, sounds easy enough. Unfortunately for me I had issues with my trigger after turning the lock to open and fiddling around with this for some time and trying and trying to get the spray to release it just wasn't happening I had tried at least 10 times with no luck, and gave up. Later in the afternoon I decided to try again and continued to do so until I had released a scent however this took forever at least 30 times of pushing the trigger eekkkk.
However once I managed to get the trigger working the most beautiful scent of apples was released which left Miss 4 asking for an apple to eat. The smell was so fresh and crisp and smelt absolutely lovely. Over the week I have tried this out numerous times and found it to be great for covering up odors in the toilet and around the cat litter, the scent doesn't last to long infact it dissapears pretty quickly, but it also tends to take the unpleasant odors away at the same time which is great. I find this a lovely scent to use in the kitchen and it is something I don't mind spraying around after having food cooking.
As far as air fresheners go this is one of the most pleasant smelling ones I have come across, so the fact it is made from natural ingredients, which are much gentler on the environment is a great reason to buy it again, my family all loves the scent and visitors have been commenting on it also saying how nice it is, I will definitely be buying this again.
I have been using Earthwise products for some time now, partly because I like to think I support firms that are doing their bit for our environment, and partly because they actually do a really good job! This is the first time I have used the Apple Blossom variety but given that it is spring and fruit blossoms are popping up everywhere it seemed a topical way to go.
I started by squirting a little into the air. The fragrance is quite subtle, pleasant but not I would call pervasive, and there was certainly no strong apple aroma. That is all for the best as several of us have had lingering infections around various parts of our breathing apparatus. In my case it manifested itself in coughing and frequent asthma attacks (something I do not usually suffer from) so it was great to find that the spray had no effect on my breathing - it did not bother me at all. There were several other people in the room, and nobody else reported any ill effects either so that was the first possible problem averted.
There were a couple of youngsters here this weekend with us, and one of them had the misfortune to suffer an extremely upset tummy after eating too much spicy food on top of some rather suspect and overripe fruit. The inevitable happened; being in her early teens, she was highly embarrassed and apologetic - the more so since the cabin we were all staying in was quite small.
Now this is the sort of problem that never gets mentioned in polite society so it is difficult to talk about without going into too much gruesome detail. However, these things happen, and pretending they don't is not really the answer. I told her we would try to sort the problem together and asked for her co-operation, assuring her that this would be one review with no photo attached. Not sure whether to believe me or not, she agreed.
I gave her the product to take into the bathroom next time she needed to go, instructing her to shake the container and then spray it into the air just before leaving - and to close the door behind her. When she came out, I took the container from her as I intended to put it back into the bathroom for general use. Then I went it. I was amazed. I had expected there would be still some residual unpleasant smells, but there was nothing - and not only was there no lingering odour, there was no evidence of the apple blossom scent either. The two had completely cancelled each other out.
I put the spray on top of the cistern and came out again - and was interested to find that there was a slight unpleasant odour outside the bathroom door still in the area where the spray had not been used. That was clear proof that the spray had done its job in the target area. Just to make everyone comfortable, I sprayed a little in the area that was still affected! A happy result for a very relieved teenager.
