My teenage son recently decided he wanted to get dreads, and after saving for a time, he got them for his 17th birthday. Once done it was important to find good hair care products that would clean his new dreads and not leave them full of residue and smelling badly. Dreads are a hairstyle choice not suited to everyone, and if not cared for properly then they can end up quite a mess. Given that the hair is back combed, matted, (and in his case also crocheted and hair extensions sewed in), it is to easy to not care for them properly and end up with dirty smelly dreads.
After a lot of research, we settled on the Blue Earth shampoo soap bar. From our research shampoo bars are a better idea for dreads than liquid shampoo. And it is also important that whatever you use is not full of chemicals. The shampoo bars can also be used just as well on non dreaded hair too. A little more research found that this particular soap 'shampoo smoothie' is great for scalp conditions such as psoriasis and exzema.
The bars are simply packaged, something that is important to the company themselves. They come in a variety of different ingredient mixes, and in 2-3 different sizes. The price (around $6-$10) is awesome, given that the bars last a lot longer than a bottle of shampoo. They are simple and easy to use too. In my sons case with his dreads, it was as simple as wetting the bar then creating a lather to massage into his scalp and along each of the dreads. It was very easy to rinse out too. On normal hair you could use the bar itself to massage into your hair rather than creating the lather on your hands first.
Once rinsed out your hair is left smelling and feeling clean and fresh. The scent lasts too, some shampoos you can smell while washing your hair but once rinsed the scent is gone. This is not the case with these. It is a pleasant smell too, so not all fruity or girly which was a concern of my sons. And not only does your hair feel clean but it is soft too. I highly recommend this product. The ingredients are awesome, and it is great quality at a really great price, suitable for all hair types and ages too.
