As my daughter is lactose intolerant we have had a difficult time finding dairy alternatives for her. Yoghurt was a food she really missed when dairy was removed. After searching for a decent yoghurt that was not coconut based we finally discovered the Alpro velvet vanilla desserts.
My daughter loves the Alpro dessert range. They come in 3 flavours with the velvet vanilla only second to the chocolate in her eyes. They appear thick with the texture similar to the dairy food yoghurt she used to eat. There has been no complaint regarding the taste. The size is good being a similar size to the normal yoghurts and handy in a 4 pack.
The downside to the Alpro velvet vanilla dessert is they are not widely available. Our local supermarket does not stock the Alpro desserts and the closest supermarket that does stock them only stock the chocolate flavour. They also are quite a bit more expensive than standard yoghurt.
Overall when I see these Alpro velvet vanilla desserts I grab them. They are a great tasting alternative to the dairy-based yoghurts that even a fussy 3-year-old loves. I would recommend these desserts to anyone wanting to try a lactose-free alternative especially if they are not keen on the coconut based yoghurts that tend to be the only other alternative.
My daughter is on a dairy free diet amongst other things, so finding foods that she can eat that also taste good can sometimes be a bit of a challenge for us. With going dairy free one of the things she tends to miss the most is yoghurt, and with most dairy free yoghurts available on the market either tasting fowl or containing fruits, and in most cases these happen to be the fruits she can't eat, which makes a difficult situation either trickier. In the past few weeks I happened to notice the Alpro desserts in the yoghurt section in my local supermarket, they come in a 4 pack in a variety of flavours vanilla, chocolate, caramel and gingerbread. I decided to grab the vanilla ones and give these a go with my fingers crossed they would be a hit, unlike the rest, at $7.99 a pack they weren't cheap after all in comparison to other yoghurts but I guess that's the case with most special alternative products for those with allergies!
I opened up a pottle of one of the yoghurts for Miss 2 for dessert after dinner to try, my initial thought that they were of a very generous size, if not to big. I gave the vanilla yoghurt a taste myself and thought it tasted a lot like the vanilla custard which you buy ready made in the milk chiller at the supermarkets, or like calci-yum dairy food it was actually really tasty especially being dairy free and soy based. My daughter loved this and was more than happy to gobble it down, at last a yoghurt she could eat smooth, creamy and sweet just like how I had hoped for it to be. If I had to have one negative about this yoghurt it would be that the pottles are actually to big for her, so I would love to see the 4 pack divided into 6 smaller serves perhaps, I tried to save the other half for later by putting it into a resealable container but it quickly turned to liquid so was no good.
I see on the Alpro website they have such a range of different products overseas, I would love to see more products reach New Zealand, would provide so much choice in our stores for those who are dairy free.

Awesome belly bacon, extensively air-dried and twice cold manuka smoked to give a full smoke flavour.
When you fry this bacon you will not create a steam bath as the air drying greatly reduces water content. You will enjoy a real crusty tasty mouthful of smoky bacon.
Why pay for water when buying regular bacon? "Once bitten, never shy".
