We are big fans of the Ricky Ricotta series. They are exciting and action packed with a strong emphasis on friendship. In this book Ricky struggles with the fact that his Mighty Robot is so big and it's hard to have fun together, but when something strange befalls his Mighty Robot and he goes missing, Ricky realises just how much he means to him. As is usually the case, it's the bad guys getting up to no good that causes the Mighty Robot to disappear but Ricky soon finds them and puts a stop to their evil plans with the help of some other friends.

The original books were all in black and white so I am loving the new colour editions. There's just something about bold, glossy illustrations that can really bring a story to life. I like the addition of the comic strip pages but the flip-o-rama is a bit fiddly to use and I don't think it really adds anything to the story. The chapters are short with just a few paragraphs on each page and I highly recommend this book for encouraging children to read independently. My son was happy to sit down and read this book by himself which is unusual for him (he's good at reading but he doesn't enjoy it) so it is a definite winner.

We've gotten one of these books to review before and my kids really liked it, so they were really excited to see this and they were right into looking through the book. This story has Rickey seeing some of the pitfalls of his best friend being so big, but when his friend isn't there he realizes how much he loves having his friend around, and of course there are bad guys to save the world from. The story line is fun and I love how Rickey needs to call in his friends and they all participate in saving the world.

There were are a few words that my eldest struggled with but he was able to read most of this to me on his own, which he was really pleased about, he loves the characters and the pictures throughout though he found the flip pages annoying and didn't really like them. My youngest sat down with it a few times, just browsing through the pages and pointing out all these moments in it, even asking me to read it to her a couple of times over.

This is another fun book in the series, though I do side with my eldest in that the flip pages are irritating but other than that this is another good addition to the kids bookshelf.
