Dog Man product reviews

Great new adventure series from worldwide bestselling creator of Captain Underpants. George and Harold have created a new hero who digs into deception, claws after crooks, and rolls over robbers. When Greg the police dog and his cop companion are injured on the job, a life saving surgery changes the course of history, and Dog Man is born. With the head of a dog and the body of a human, this heroic hound has a real nose for justice. But can he resist the call of the wild to answer the call of duty?

We have a lot of time for Dav Pilkey in our house. He has published so many cool books in different series for all different ages. Even as an adult, I enjoy the humour in his books. This book of Dog Man is a cool collection of several different storylines featuring Petey the cat and Dog Man. It starts with the origin story as well, so you can understand who Dog Man is and why he is called that.

In fact the origin story, I read to everyone in the house. Miss nine was the first to say it, and my husband looked at me like "is this appropriate?" When you see the story, you'll understand it's not a great news story for the human involved. Aside from that, the stories are funny and as long as you put aside everything you know about science and remember it's fantasy, you will enjoy it. Things don't have to make sense to be fun!

My personal favourite story was the hot dog one, and that was also a bit yucky. However, my daughter's favourite was the ones about the robot chief. The other thing that was so neat, was my daughter reading this book herself. She was a bit nervous to do so, but I got her to read a page after I did one. We swapped for a bit, and then she took over entirely. She loved it and it was easy enough to read for her.

I noticed a few times during the time we have had the book, she just quietly settles down to read it herself in the afternoon after school. Getting her to read without it being homework is not easy, so this was a huge turning point for her. As long as the books are interesting, she will read. So we can not wait for the next Dog Man to come out!
