Visually this movie can not be faulted. It has it all explosions, romance, fighting, banishment, classic play on puns, gags but it did not reach its full potential like the Lego Star Wars movies. It tried to be funny but it felt like it was trying to hard and did not flow in the right sort of way. I smirked a couple of times but did not laugh out loud as it just felt dry. I felt it tried to be too involved and seemed like it wanted to complicate itself. Its good don't get me wrong, its just not great.
I enjoyed the relationship aspect between all of the superheros especially the Green Lantern and the Flash there competitive nature kept it light hearted and fun. Even the bad dudes had there moments. Supermans kind nature did get a little tedious espcially the way he looked up to Batman. I do enjoy Batmans egotistical nature and the way he likes to remind everyone (in a deep voice) I'm batman. But it still lagged in places and dragged on in other areas. Just over an hour long it feels much longer than that. The potential for romance always hangs in the air and that excites me and I enjoyed finding out everyones special abilities but it just didn't hold my attention for the whole time.
My six year old loved it she gave it ten out of ten and was demanding to watch it again. My three year old fell asleep, ok to be fair she is not well currently but it did not appeal to her. My husband, the king of nerds only gave it a six out of ten and said it just didn't have the same spark as the Star Wars movies and I do agree.
I like how there is violence in the movie but yet it is not really violent it is kept nice and light and tries to be funny it is not dark and in your face. The fight scenes have so much going on that you just take the action as it comes. Its predictable the good guys of course win and the bad guys swear vengance on them all. Its good for kids because the language is very gentle and like I said there is no real violence nobody dies and everyone survives to fight another day.
Not one of my favourite lego movies, heres hoping they do another and it is funnier and doesn't focus on Cyborg so much. Maybe that was my issue I just didn't like Cyborg or maybe it just wasn't as polished as I would of liked - I am just not sure.
