All I can say is YUM! I like Export Lemon, but I love Export Grapefruit. It just really smacks you in the face with refreshing grapefruit-y citrus taste. One of my favorites during the summer. Once I get my first drink of one of these puppies then you can kiss the work goodbye. I'm in relax mode. I found this in my in-law's fridge. I was like, "They make it in grapefruit!? YES PLEASE!". And it was a love that still lives strong today. When summer hits there is always a case in my fridge or at least as much as I can fit.
And fellas forget thinking this is a girly drink. If that's holding you back then you are missing out. Men and women both love it in our household. Many times I've come to visit the in-laws and there's my father-in-law sitting on the deck with one of those "froo froo" drinks in hand. It takes a strong man who knows what he likes and isn't afraid to show it. "Yes, I bought it for the wife. But I'll be damned if I can't have one now and then with some chicken flavored chips!"
I'm a sweet tooth at heart so after a few I do find that I have to move on or take a break from this beloved beverage, but usually by that time the carbonation has filled my tummy too so don't think I would win either way. Export Grapefruit don't change a thing!
On tasting this beer, I think of a grapefruit soft drink that I have tasted previously. It also has a hint of beer. It only has 2% of alcohol and therefore probably closer to an adult soft drink than a beer. This is not a negative at all as I think that it really has a place in the beer market. It is a very refreshing and satisfying drink. Yesterday I tried the lemon version of this drink and I think both versions are equally tasty.
This beer would make a lovely option when drinking full strength alcohol isn't an option, e.g. when needing to drive home after an event. With the 2% of alcohol, it equates to 0.5 of a standard drink. It still gives the adult appeal of having a beer in your hand at a social event without the higher alcohol content. I don't think it would be an option that serious beer drinkers would try as I think they would see it as lacking the beer taste and alcohol content.
The Export branding is very familiar and would make me consider trying this drink if I saw it at the supermarket because I know that the beer is nice.
I would see this drink as a great option for me personally as I tend to prefer a shandy to a full strength beer. Export Citrus gives me a similar option which is ready to drink straight from the bottle. It would make it easier than taking some lemonade and a bottle of beer to a BBQ. I also found that it wasn't as sweet as adding lemonade to beer.
As with the lemon version, the grapefruit beer is something that I would seriously consider as a drink for myself. I think it could quench the thirst in the summer, without taking in too much alcohol.
