Despite having a bit of a rough start, this series has surprised me by stepping up it's entertainment value significantly, and this is only the 3rd book! In this book, the creature that the protagonists had to find was a Dragon, and because I have a large fascination with them, this book was one of particular interest for me. Despite the last book having a cliffhanger of sorts, this book didn't pick up directly from that point, and unfortunately that is something I dislike in a book series, but the rest of the book made up for this fact. It was great that this book brought back the young thief "Jack", who was last heard of in the first book, but never mentioned in book 2. Also, some little "mysteries" that came into the story earlier in the series were revealed in this book.

It is great that this is a small 5-book series, because the longer ones tend to get boring pretty fast, as they take too long to reveal any mysteries, whereas a short series keeps things interesting as there's less time for things to get boring. The point is, with this being the 3rd book I am now halfway through the series, and therefore it is no surprise that the endgame is already beginning, but it is exciting to be so close to the end, as I am interested in finding out just what will unfold in the final book. I think the book was engaging, there were quite a few moments where I expected something to happen, but then something else happened instead, so an unpredictable plot is always a good thing, because always knowing what's going to happen next just spoils a book.

At first I didn't know how the characters were going to accomplish their task, things just seemed too confusing and impossible, but this book revealed a mystery that has been present since early on in the first book, and when that last little piece fell into place, everything else just made sense, it felt like each book was placing down lines of dominoes, and now the end of this book has knocked over the final domino in a long line connecting to lines set up by previous books revealing the big picture. I think the book is at a good price, it isn't too expensive, so it is more widely accessible, which is a good thing. I think this is a good series for some of the younger readers to have a go at. Overall, this is quite a good book, nothing spectacular, but nothing disappointing, either.

I have been hooked since the first few pages of the first book so I was really excited to see I had been given this book to review.

The story was fast paced and allies and enemies were identified. Motives for deceit were revealed and parts of the story are starting to be revealed and are starting to make sense. The kids are realising their own strengths and weaknesses, personalities are showing. It is easy to imagine being part of the quest with the excitement and confusion very well written. It is good that the kids are growing more confident and realising that they are capable of doing great things, it is good that the mythical creatures are being well cared for and bonds are being formed.

Another thing that I have seen is that the order of the books is easy to tell as the number is clearly printed on the spine of the book as it would make it really hard to follow if the books are read out of order. The cover is good, it has an interesting picture and the blurb makes the story sound really worth reading, I am glad that the book delivers on the promise of a great story.

I am eagerly waiting for the next book.
