Twelve-year-old Artemis Fowl is a millionaire, a genius-and, above all, a criminal mastermind. But even Artemis doesn't know what he's taken on when he kidnaps a fairy, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit. These aren't the fairies of bedtime stories; these fairies are armed and dangerous.
Artemis thinks he has them right where he wants themā¦but then they stop playing by the rules.

What do you get if you put together a twelve year old mega genius with a huge abundance of money with a fairy who is a captain in the LEPrecon? A whole lot of fun and action, that's what you get. Artemis comes from a long line of criminal bosses and since his fathers disappearance he has taken over the job of running the family business, and since he is a child prodigy this has been the easiest thing for him. He has since uncovered what he believes to be proof the magic, fairies and all that comes with actually do exist and then he manages to catch Holly, the first female captain in the LEP who isn't going to take this without a fight.
There is a lot of good vs bad vibes in this book since obviously Artemis isn't that good of a good guy... He holds Holly for ransom for gold and this sets off an attempt at her rescue and one heck of a learning curve for both Holly and Aretmis. You also see Artemis does have a heart as one of his main concerns is his mother and her health which went into decline after the disappearance of her husband. This was such a fun book, some great explanations into magic and this world and one that I am sure my kids will enjoy when they start to read.

"I like to pick up hitchhikers. When they get in the car I say, "Put on your seat belt. I want to try something. I saw it once in a cartoon, but I think I can do it."
