Product reviews...
I didn't have to ask my husband twice when I suggested we apply for some Swiss Deli Spanish Chorizo to review. We both love spicy meats but don't often treat ourselves to it. My husband used the first Chorizo on a pizza along with a couple of other meats and various other toppings. The pizza smelt so good with the heated chorizo that I forgot about taking a photo and started eating it before it was cool enough. Both the adults loved the spicy taste and really enjoyed our pizza. Our daughters thought it was too spicy and picked off all the chorizo before eating the rest of their pizza. Oh well their loss was our gain.
The second chorizo I used along with Swiss Deli's Veal Bratwurst and lots of veges to create a platter where everyone could make their own Shish kebab. This was such a simple but extremely popular meal. Again the girls turned their noses up at the chorizo in favour of the bratwurst but the adults loved it.
This is a quality product and the price reflects this. It is certainly something I would buy again as treat for the adults. It could be used in a variety of ways but the simple deli platter would be very appealing whether for a dinner party or in front of the rugby.
Garlic, paprika, peppers, capsicum and chilli are all things I love and together, well.
I like the thicker than normal sausage skin and with the spicy factor, it makes me feel like I've eaten more than I have. If you are sensitive to spicy/hot food I would advise you steer clear.
Half way through, my nose started to water and when my children smelt it, they came running and salivating all over it. I must be getting weak in my old age but found the perfect thing to accompany this product is Strawberry & Lime Cider, this was a match made in heaven.
While I have had Spanish choritzo before, I doubt I have had any that compare to this in either price or taste. I know with Swiss deli that my family are more than happy to eat their products and that I can trust my daughter or my flatmate to go to the supermarket and get the right thing because of the classic, easy to distinguish label.
I would like to try these again and I think I'd like to do it deep fried.
My 9 year old says "to tell the truth, they weren't that spicy and they were really yummy (just how many times can she say yummy about this).
I love a good chortizo... the spicier the better in my books. When I get the chance, I always grab some at the local supermarket or any expo shows I go to, because it's something that my family won't eat so it's my personal treat. I enjoy using it as a key ingredient in a number of dishes - pasta meals, risottos, mixing it through my portion of nachos, or sliced thinly and layered into my own personal piece of heaven, the triple-decker choritzo salad sandwich.
With this one, I first tried some on it's own and it was everything I could ask for, but a little milder than my ideal. Still, you can't have everything perfect or the world would be a boring place indeed. Still, I had more than enough to make one of my sandwiches for lunch, and plenty left over to dice up and add to a stir-fry I was doing for lunch the next day. Adding this in about half way through ensured it was lightly fried, but not so much that it leaked all it's flavour out. I didn't want the veges to soak up too much of it's flavour and drown their own.
Not the cheapest choritzo out there, this does have that authentic hand-made pedigree that justifies, to a large degree, the cost. Still, if you are on a tight budget you may want to save up a bit, because this is worth treating yourself.
