Product reviews...
Not too long ago, I found a box of these at my local supermarket. Having tried several of the other Avalanche coffees I thought I had to give this a try. I am one of those people that must try all the new things. A Mochaccino is my usual cafe order, so I was interested to see what this coffee would be like.
The flavour of this coffee tasted strong, and the mocha portion was more like a dark cocoa rather than a chocolate. So it's not a sweet mocha flavour and actually is much closer to what I would taste in a cafe style mocha than other at home sachets I have tried on the market. I suppose if you needed it to be a little sweeter you could add some sugar. I tried a sprinkle of Avalanche drinking chocolate on top and that was a nice wee addition.
I shared a few of these sachets around the office as well. Most people commented on the flavour being more subtle than expected, but still being enjoyable. I think if you were the sort of consumer who likes high cocoa content to your chocolate and espresso style coffees, then the more bitter tones would suit you fine. The only thing that would stop me purchasing this one again, is that the Caramel Latte Avalanche usually tells me off for looking at other boxes.
I have yet to find a good coffee that I do like, I hate strong coffee so tend to have hot chocolate or tea when I'm out and at home I use instant with about a quarter of a spoon of coffee powder. I have been told by a few friends that I should try a mochaccino as it is not that strong and it might just be good for me. I was excited when I read the email that I was getting some to review.
The box is huge but the serving size was generous and it smelt rather nice. I read the box and thought well that is not going to work, I don't measure how much water I put in a cup and I prefer hot drinks and not just warm so any instructions that say to use hot but not boiling water usually don't taste right to me. I made one cup with nothing added but water and found it rather strong and extremely hard to drink. I thought I would try one more with sugar the next night and see if that made a difference, it was a lot easier to drink and I almost enjoyed it but not enough to want to drink the other sachets in the box (I'm going to pass onto a friend who wasn't successful in getting some to review).
I was thinking about buying some for when I feel like some coffee and just adding sugar but then I saw the price and there is no way I would feel good about spending that much money on something I don't enjoy quite a lot.
I am a bit of a vanilla or hazelnut girl when I drink these sachet coffee based drinks so I wasn't drinking a "favourite flavour" with these Mochacchino sachets. That said they weren't too bad!
At 18.5 grams per sachet there is a decent amount of substance in them to get a good cup. The Sachets were easy to open and easy to pour which I liked so I had no spillage of powder. The instructions on the packet told me to empty contents into a mug then add 150 ml of water (not boiling) and stir well.
The drink froths up nicely and although a bit hot to drink immediately once it had cooled down (or on the odd occasion when I wasn't patient I added a dash of milk) it had a lovely first taste. I enjoyed the taste and the texture of this drink. There was no chemical aftertaste which can occur with some brands of sachet. Whilst I have never been a fan of milk powder drinks this wasn't that bad and my overall feeling when I had finished drinking it was that it was quite nice.
I have been having a sachet every afternoon and find that the taste is quite appealing as it doesn't taste that artificial and is quite a comforting taste. Despite not being a Moccachino fan I would actually buy these again and think they are great for travelling or just popping a couple in your bag to drink with a friend. A good compromise if you can't decide on having a coffee or a hot chocolate - just have both.
I would recommend trying these if you haven't tried the Avalanche Brand.
