Guardians of Ga'Hoole: The Rise of a Legend product reviews

Bestselling author Kathryn Lasky takes flight once more with a brand-new Guardians of Ga'Hoole novel!

Far off in the ice-choked land of the Northern Kingdoms, a young screech owl is marked by destiny. He is Ezylryb, an owl who will rise through the ranks of the Killian Army to become the commander of a battalion of snakes. But although Ezylryb is touched by greatness, his battle-filled life is punctuated by tragedy - from the attack that leaves his father flightless forever, to a terrible betrayal by Ezylryb's own brother. But the young owl - with the support of a snake named Octavia - rises above it all, rises high on strong wings.

For Ezylryb is no ordinary owl.

He's the stuff of legends.

He's a Guardian of Ga'Hoole.

This is a classic novel with an almost fairy-tale feel about it. It follows the story of a young fledgling owl who, with rather high ranking parents, has many high expectations looming upon him. As a late bloomer, he begins to fit in the typical category of a disappointment, until he is sent off to military camp. With his new found friends and purpose, he makes a key discovery that will forever change the course of military tactics as the owls know it, and may even alter the outcome of the war.

This book is written in a very unique writing style that many young readers many not appreciate as well as older readers. Some parts can become cloudy with the plot, so this book makes for a challenge, no easy reading here! This novel has several mature themes that young readers may not understand as well, so the reading may not be as enjoyable for them. It has moments of action that make your heart race and it has the threads of young love woven throughout. āœ Legends of the Guardiansā has moments that will engross anyone and everyone!

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good battle and a bit of romance and it will be suitable for both genders as it has a little of something for everyone! It would most likely suit those aged around 11-14.

This novel is written as Ezylryb's memoir. It tells the story of how he came to be known to young owls as Lyze of Kiel, a great war hero

Told as a first-person memoir, Rise of a Legend is a great companion to the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series. When I read the first ones in the series Ezylryb fascinated me with his grizzled, complex personality. He was a grumpy old man who turned out to be a war-hero/genius with a troubled past. This book is a great insight into him.

There is plenty of action in this book, so much so that I kept on reading, couldn't put it down and just raced through the book. There were some touching family moments, but they felt like they were the more to flesh out the book rather than anything else.

If you are a Ga'Hoole fan then this book is a must read, I've now passed this on to my mum who owns all the books to date.
