Experiencing stress is a normal part of being human, but in our increasingly complex and fast-paced world, our stress levels can interfere with our enjoyment of life.
Stress expresses itself in numerous ways, physically and mentally, including through anxiety, lack of focus and energy, sleeplessness, muscle tension and irritation. What many might not know if that in large doses, ongoing stress is considered to be a contributing factor to instances of cancer, heart disease and stroke.
Clinical psychologist Dr Michael Player and bestselling author-illustrator Matthew Johnstone have learnt how to successfully manage stress in their own lives and have taught clients, readers and audiences everywhere to do the same.

I've just recently gone back to full time study and now with one income and a busy household, life is pretty hectic and at times, extremely stressful. My husband also recovered from a mental illness a few years ago and received counselling and exercises to aid his recovery so I was looking forward to reading Stress Less and discovering what strategies and practices they suggested.
Stress Less is a beautifully presented book with some thoughtful yet humourous illustrations. I found that the different colour and size of fonts, pictures and various page formats made this book easy to read. Rather than reading chapters and chapters of text, it was easy to find particular sections and the layout meant it was enjoyable to read. The chapters cleverly tie in with the title; Stressless, Mindless, Fearless, Timeless, Weightless, Fightless and Limitless and they cover everything from managing tricky thoughts to SMART goals to improving all round people skills. My favourite 'Short Stress Lessons from Life' was the lesson from a man's best friend. A psychiatrist would always prescribe a dog before pills saying that a well looked after dog will give you everything you need; unconditional love, loyalty, companionship and exercise!
The authors both share their experiences with stress which is great to read as they share with the reader the strategies that worked for them. They also use short, real life 'stories' throughout the book which are give the book realism and help engage the reader. There are lovely, relevant quotes throughout the book and one of my favourites was "We have two ears and one mouth so we can listen twice as much as we speak". I am definitely going to be using that one with my children........
I would definitely recommend Stress Less to those that are experiencing, or have experienced stress. It's not only entertaining but a colourful and informative resource that will definitely help you to improve your life!
