Product reviews...
I have a 1 year old granddaughter, and recently needed to find some little treats that I could give to her as snacks on the days she visited with us. Her mum has a tendency to put bags of chips (burger rings, twisties etc) in her bag and I personally would rather not give these to her. Some toddlers will eat anything that is given to them, and other toddlers are picky little eaters, and finding good snacks for those picky ones is often a mission. And of course our darling granddaughter is a picky eater lol
From the age of about 8 months, every time I visited the supermarket I would check the baby food aisle for goodies for her. It was great once she reached 1 as it means we could offer her more variety with her foods. One-day, when I went to our local New World, I spotted these little beauties: Little Kids, Fruit & Veg Shredz. I kinda love products that mix both fruit & veg together. It makes me feel like I'm doing a good thing getting both fruit & veges into a child in one go haha It is even better if kids like them and will eat them all.
The shredz are like small stripes of fruit leathers, but not as chewy obviously because they are for toddlers. The packaging states that they melt in the mouth. We tried them, as I was a little worried initially that they might get stuck in bubbys throat, or stick to her gums. They are great for toddlers and as the box states, they do melt in the mouth, so there were no further concerns. As an added bonus too, they were actually really quite yummy. Very strong fruity flavour and no taste of veges lol
They have no added sugars etc, just the sugar from the fruit apparently. They are sold in boxes of 5 pouches and each pouch is portion controlled, although my granddaughter happily finishes the entire pouch and then searches high and low for me. The box is easy to open and each pouch just tears a strip across one edge. Toddlers can easily fit their hand in the wee pouch, which was made rectangle in shape I assume especially for them to be able to do this.
The shredz are a great little size for little hands and as an added bonus the size and shape of the shredz is really good for toddlers development, especially with pincer grip and hand eye coordination. There are two different flavours available at our local supermarket, and little miss loves both flavours as much as the other. These are seriously the perfect little snack for toddlers, and are a really great price. I highly recommend these to every mum or dad out there. two thumbs up for sure.
While hunting for tasty lunchbox goodies to put into my toddlers lunch box I was surprised to come across these on the supermarket shelf. While reading the back I was shocked to find that these were in fact made up of fruit and vegetables. Around 70% apple, 10% peach and corn so thought I would buy a box and see what the reaction was.
Got them home and opened up the packet. I was imagining a sticky mess and fruit shreds that would stick to my fingers straight away but I was wrong. They weren't in the slightest bit sticky as they had a dusting of something on the top of them. The toddler said "ta" so I handed them over. She placed a few in her mouth, rolled around with her tongue and begun to chew.. This is a good start, next came the "yum yum" and she was hooked. The entire packet (which is a decent size) was demolished in a matter of minutes. This definitely got the toddler seal of approval.
For a fruit and vege snack they are actually quite delicious, I tried one myself and it was rather pleasant. They would make the perfect treat for a lunch box and a sneaky way to get in extra fruit and vegetables for those fussy eaters!
I hadn't seen these before but after seeing my fellow reviewers review of them I went looking at my local supermarket. I thought they were a bit pricey but being they are free of artificial colours or flavours and are specifically made for younger children I thought the price was worthwhile. Being for younger children they are easy to chew as they are nice and soft and small pieces for their little hands.
The flavour is quite nice compared to other fruit snacks on the market these aren't overly sweet and sugary compared to things like fruit nuggets or fruit strings which is good as they seem more healthy. You can't taste the vegetable with the fruit flavours masking any trace of pumpkin or sweetcorn. They have a powdery type coating to them too so they aren't sticky on hands.
Well my son absolutely loved them and even though each bag has quite a few in it he managed to polish a whole bag off easily. It was quite a good afternoon tea because it was something I could grab quickly and easily and know it wasn't going to fill him up to much before dinner but give him something to tide him over until then. When we went to playgroup we also put a bag of these in our day bag and he enjoyed sitting and eating them there too and did not wan't to share.
I bought a box of these today at the supermarket as snacks for daycare and the weekend. After dinner I thought I would open a bag to see whether they were any good. The box contains 5 bags. The bags are actually very decently sized and I was able to share the bag out between myself, my toddler and my 6 year old with no complaints.
I tried a handful of the shredz. They are just like little straps of fruit leather. They have that dusty grainy feeling to them, which is good because they don't stick together. The taste is very much peach flavoured. Not my favourite, but I was surprised that given approximately 70% of this is Apple, then 10% each on peach, corn and pumpkin - all I really tasted was peach.
I handed some to my toddler and she promptly gave up the cheese she was eating (her favourite) and switched to the shredz. She clearly loved them because she went from one at a time to a whole handful and just shoving them into her mouth.
I gave my 6 year old the last of them. She declared them to be "fruitilious" and asked that they come to school with her every day for lunches. I think I'll have to buy another box and soon!
