I am a fan of orange flavour - mostly in the more natural, less sugary form, and also of trying new and interesting things - so the Salted Orange Crunch by In-Salt captured my attention to request and review.

Opening the review box I found the lovely silver packet and immediately noticed a few things about it. These were the amount of Salted Orange Crunch in the packet (it is quite full!), the fact that it is resealable (no having to find another airtight container) and that the packet stands up beautifully - YAY for a great design - and meaning I can easily see which one it is in the pantry! Sometimes it is the little things about a product that truly make it stand out!

Like a few other reviewers, the first thing that I did was the try the salted orange "Au natural" so to speak - without sprinkling it on, or adding it too anything. It is actually amazingly well balanced in flavours which is not what I was expecting. I truly expected that it would be more salty than orange, or quite tangy, so huge applause to the In-Salt team for truly getting that mix perfect.

Having baking on the mind as a first thing for this product, I made some orange, poppy and LSA muffins (spot the Mum that sneaks the good stuff into her kids lunches!!) and sprinkled a little into the top before baking them. Because I was not sure how strong the taste would be after baking I opted after they were done to sprinkle four with a little more and earmarked them for hubby and myself. I was really pleasantly surprised, and was absolutely delighted that the kids devoured the muffins, saying that they "really tasted like orange". The sugar crisped and sort of caramelised beautifully, and the extra added to the adults ones made the taste a good strong one.

Next I tried this with my usual breadcrumb coating over my chicken - like a twist on lemon chicken, but so much more "adult" - and boy, was it nice! Different, zesty and gave me the feeling that summer was on its way, and salads and barbeque chicken would be amazing with this. I am going to try it with a few more things also - I think it would be beautifully in yoghurt, to make a yoghurt/tszatiki type dressing, and through gelato - I am picking a more citrus lime or lemon would really suit it best.

This little packet of goodness truly is very versatile and it is worth having in your pantry when you want something just a little bit different. I honestly have zero suggestions to change about this product, and look forward to experimenting and trying more of the flavours!!

I have always been a fan of orange flavours, whether they are the fake orange flavours that you often find in products, or products that are more of a real orange flavour so I was keen to put in my request when I saw this product come up for review. Opening my parcel and discovering a packet inside I was very keen to have a try. The packet had a transparent section over the front and I could see the real bits of orange peel in the packet, so I had high hopes for how amazing it would taste. Unsure of what to use it for I was pleased that there were some suggestions on the packet (as written above in the product description) and these got me thinking, however the first way I decided to use it was completely coincidental!

I am a big fan of a hot chocolate as I am not a coffee drinker, and one of my favourite products on the market is a jaffa hot chocolate. However, my partner has a coffee machine and makes me "real" cafe type hot chocolates at home, but most powders you can get that work well in it are only hot chocolate flavour. When he made me a hot chocolate one afternoon I suddenly had the idea to put in some of this in my hot chocolate. The only thing that made me a little hesitant was that it was a salt based product, so I decided to open the packet and dip my finger in to give it a taste first. It was so so good! And to be honest, I couldn't really taste the salt, and being someone who doesn't like the flavour of salt I think this is a good thing! It certainly did taste just like an orange sugar (and a real orange flavour). I sprinkled some onto the top of my hot chocolate and let it sit for a minute. The orange salt had sat on top of the froth of my hot chocolate, and as I sipped I got the most amazing tinge of orange in my hot chocolate. It was absolutely devine! I think I will struggle to use this salt in any other way - as I want to keep it all for in my hot chocolates now!

I did however manage to give up some of my orange salt so that both my partner and I could try it sprinkled over some plain vanilla ice cream. We got a box of my favourite vanilla ice cream (thick and creamy - mmmm) and sprinkled a generous amount over the ice cream. A match made in heaven for anyone who loves orange and vanilla! The salt had a strong enough flavour that the orange taste came through with every mouthful. The salt and sugar gave the ice cream a bit of a crunchy texture, but this was fine as it meant the amazing orange flavour was there! The orange flavour is very true to the taste of an orange peel, I wouldn't change a thing with this product at all!

As more and more good quality orange flavoured items come out I'm finally getting to enjoy the flavour so much more than ever before. Getting this out of my parcel, straight away I could see that this was orange, it has a gorgeous colour and is made even better by the fact that there are only three ingredients in this little pouch, milled sugar, organise flakey sea salt and tree ripened oranges. Opening it up, you could further see little flakes of orange throughout and as soon as you take a sniff you're hit with a gorgeous orange tang that simply begs to be tasted. All three ingredients are well balanced so you get this lovely sweet orange with just a hint of salt at the end of it.

I had some lovely lemon gelato sitting in my freezer and I thought why not give it a try with this? The gelato itself was very, very tangy, to the point that you only wanted to eat a very small amount, so I decided to give myself a decent bowlful this time and sprinkle a decent amount of the Salted Orange on top. And Oh My Gosh! it was delicious!!! The salted orange took away the tang of the lemon without taking away that gorgeous lemon flavour and added so much more. I made it a second time, this time making some up for my mum and she too agreed that it was delicious. I was also planning on using this as icing on a carrot cake but after mixing some into the cream cheese icing, well, I just ate the icing...

This is a yummy artisan salt/dip which hits all the right spots.

I love being adventurous with my cooking, and in particular, I love to try new products. That is why I was so excited to see these flavoured salts from In-Salt on the KIWIreviews page. I have to say when I received this packet of the Salted Orange Crunch I was a little concerned that this time I may have gone too far in my adventure. After all, do salt and orange really go together? I was curious, slightly nervous and quisical, but most of all eager to find out what uses I could come up with.

The product itself is really handy. Packed in its own re-sealable pouch, it stands up really well in the cupboard (you may laugh, but how many times have you found a half-used pack of salt in the cupboard which has leaked everywhere as it didn't seal). Already I was impressed. I decided to poke my finger in and have a little try of the product on its own. I was really pleasantly surprised - as other reviewers have said, the orange, salt and sugar are all really well balanced so no one of the ingredients overpowers the others. This must have been really tricky to get right, and I'm pleased that someone else has done this for me (it would have taken a lot of development I'm sure). The other really notable thing was how zesty the orange flavour was. No fake orange mustiness here, but a really sharp and tangy citrus hit. You can even see the little bits of orange in it. Now I was pleased I had it in my cupboard.

I set about making quite a few things with this little pack of deliciousness. Sprinkled over the top of an orange bread and butter pudding the orange enhanced the marmalade used on the bread, and the salt helped to offset the sweetness, whilst the sugar crisped up to make a lovely crunchy topping. When I sprinkled it over my citrus and passionfruit loaf it added a crunch and a zesty yet savoury note to counter the sweetness of the icing. It added a new edge used as an accompaniment to a ham glaze, and was delicious on a chicken and citrus salad as the final flourish alongside some croutons.

Overall I feel really ashamed that I didn't have more faith in this product to start with. I have been consistently reaching for it in both sweet and savoury applications, and it has not let me down yet. The little bag may be deceiving in size, as it is a generous enough portion that it will last for many more uses yet. A new and innovative product which is good value for money and generally useful. I cannot wait to see what you do next In-Salt.

Previously I have never been very interested in artisan salts, rubs, dips or sugars and haven't bothered to try any. When I saw KIWIreviews page offering some to review I decided to check out the flavours, thinking I probably wouldn't like the flavours I wasn't very excited. However when I saw the range available including the Salted Orange Crunch I became intrigued. There were numerous suggestions on how to use the product, including mixed through yoghurt or whipped cream, or sprinkled over cakes and ice-cream. Thankfully I received a packet to review and it was time to step outside my comfort zone.

The packaging is simplistic but the product stands out through the packet window, there is certainly no mistaking the orange in the mix. I tore the top off the packet and took a sniff, I was met by a fragrant citrus aroma which got my mouth watering. I decided to use this product mixed through some yoghurt as a flavour boost. I poured a rather generous amount on the top of the yoghurt and thoroughly mixed so there were no lumps of sugar.
For a product that only has 3 ingredients (tree ripened oranges, milled sugar, and organic flaky sea salt) this product contains a great amount of flavour. The sea salt and orange balance each other out and left a nice taste in my mouth. Next time I think I will try using the product sprinkled on some cream cheese icing on a carrot cake. I like that the company has made the packaging resealable as I believe a little of this product goes a long way.

I thoroughly enjoyed using this delicious mix and will be checking out the In-Salt website, to see their other products in the range and to read some of their delicious ideas. This product has now made me more eager to try artisan products in the not too distant future.

I love the heady combination of sweet and savoury mixed together so I was really looking forward to trying In-Salts Salted Orange Crunch. It comes in an resealable bag with a clear front so you can see exactly what you are getting. The first thing I did was to open the bag and dip a (clean!) finger into the packet for a taste test. As soon as my 8 year old daughter saw me doing this she wanted to taste it too and her face told me that this was going to be a staple in our pantry! The crunch is made up of milled sugar, tree ripened oranges and organic flaky sea salt. The small pieces of orange were evident in the crunch and when I put some on my tongue, the sweetness of the sugar hit me first, followed by the orange flavour, followed by a slightly salty finish. It was delicious!

I decided to make some basic bliss balls (almonds and dates) and added a teaspoon of the crunch to the mixture. I then rolled each ball in the crunch for extra flavour. I have to say that the bliss balls were delicious and had a subtle orange flavour. They were sweeter rather than saltier but the dates would also have affected the sweetness. I managed to get my hubby to try one of the balls which he usually hates and he was impressed by the orange flavour and was keen to try another. To say I'm in love with In-Salt's Salted Orange Crunch is an understatement and I'm now looking at different ways in which to use it!

My next mission is to make some cupcakes and sprinkle it on the icing and I'm going to sprinkle some on vanilla ice cream later. This versatile rub is really tasty and I recommend you give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
