My daughter got this book out at the library recently. She is currently studying plants and their life cycle in her class. This book is hardcover and very sturdy. The cover art is a close up picture of a sunflower's flowerhead. It shows the sunflower at the floret state, before its seeds fully form.
Inside is around 32 pages of information about sunflowers and how they grow from seed, to flower and how they create seeds to go through the process again. The flowers have a 16 week cycle. I knew quite a bit about sunflowers and seeds in general and how they grow. But even I found I was learning a lot about plants with this book.
For example, I didn't realise that we need honeybees to move the pollen around the flowerheads in order to have the seeds develop. Without the cross pollination, the seeds aren't made. I also learnt some new terms like bracts, which are the green petal-like part of the flower before the yellow petals emerge.
The photos through-out the book are full colour and really helpful to understand the process the flower is going through. They flip from in a studio of some kind, so you can see the seed under the soil and everything has a black background, to the open fields. My daughter was able to tell me about the sunflowers she had at school and how they moved with the sun and also how they had died. She talked about collecting the seeds as well.

Sometimes, being helpful is not enough. When the mail van driver walks out, Miss Mickle from the Post Office store is left in a right pickle. Enter Stan, a helpful chap who offers to drive the delivery van. Unfortunately Miss Mickle doesn't give him the chance to explain that he actually can't read and parcel pandemonium ensues!
When the angry recipients storm the Post Office and find out the reason for the mis-deliveries, they decide to band together to help Stan learn to read.
