Making chocolate icing is easy with Chelsea's Rich Chocolate Icing Sugar. Simply mix with hot water and spread directly onto cakes, cupcakes or as a filling between biscuits. The perfect mix of icing sugar to cocoa gives a rich chocolate icing every time and the convenient 375g pack is the right quantity to ice two regular sized cakes.
All our icing sugars are Gluten Free. We use Tapioca Starch rather than a wheat based product to ensure our icing sugar is free flowing and doesn't form into hard lumps. It is always recommended though to sieve your icing to ensure the best result.
Tip: this is great for not only making icing but also for dusting or adding a little chocolatey sweetness to whipped cream.
Available in 375g bags
Product reviews...
I love to bake and do so at least once a week, especially now that Miss 2 is of a age where she enjoys helping with baking also, it's a great way to spend some quality time together in the kitchen and to teach her these important life skills. I always get really excited when I go to my local supermarket and see new baking products out in the baking isle and more often than not I end up leaving with them. Chocolate icing is one of those things that goes with almost any type of baking, and is something you can't really go wrong with so when I saw this it had to go in the trolley along with the pink berry icing mix that Chelsea had also just brought out.
I have to admit as much as I love and enjoy baking when it comes to making a icing or frosting i'm really not very good at it, probably because I'm to impatient to stand there and sift the ingredients together and also due to the fact that I don't really measure my icing ingredients... OOPS. So I thought this may just be my answer, the icing is very simple to prepare, just mix with a little bit of hot water until you reach the desired consistency, really what can go wrong, in my case NOTHING.
The icing has a lovely flavour of rich dark chocolate, and a very distinctive chocolate smell. I decided to top some Afghans I had made with the icing and it spread on really well with a knife dipped in boiling water, it also left a lovely glossy finish to the biscuits. Not only does the icing go well on Afghans, but it is also fabulous on cakes, cupcakes and slices. Considering the bag contains all you need for your icing bar the water the price and size of the bag are great, and similar to those of normal icing sugar. The only improvement which I feel that Chelsea could make to this bag (and also all the other bags in their baking product range) is to make them resealable this would be ideal.
Definetely a quick and easy no-fail icing that is sure to be loved by all who try it.
I bake a lot, at least three times a week, sometimes more than that. I bake and freeze as well as bake so my kids have freah baking for treats. But as much as I bake, icings and frostings are often my down fall. I am not very good at making icing lol So I do love the convenience of Chelseas rich chocolate icing sugar. It is cheap to buy, with easy to follow instructions, and as the product suggests rich chocolate flavour.
My favourite two things about this product are that it is Gluten free and that all I need to add to it is water. It really is that simple. The icing sugar has a nice chocolate smell, and when madecinto icing it is easy to spread and just as easy to ear. And as an added bonus Chelsea also has a berry flavoured icing sugar too. The berry being my favourite of the two.
As I said I bake a lot. So I always have this and the berry icing sugar in my cupboard. One of my favourite things to make is truffles. I have two favourite recipes that I use all the time. One of these uses a lot of icing sugar and I then add my own flavourings and choc chips, nuts, fruit etc to the mark. These icing sugars are brilliant for the truffles and mean I don't need to add in essences, cocoa, food colourings etc when using them.I most definitely highly recommens Chelseas rich chocolate icing sugar, but I do wish that it came in a resealable bag but if all I have to complain about is the bag, then Chelsea is definitely on to a good thing lol
I love baking and trying new products and recipes so when I noticed this icing sugar in my supermarket I just had to buy some, got home and made a chocolate cake but then found that I didn't like the grainy feel to the icing when it was made. Taste is ok but I personally would probably rather make my own next time as I can use either cocoa for a strong chocolate taste or milo for a smoother and tastier icing that the kids love.
I have noticed that it also comes in other flavours and would love to give them a go. Only thing I'm a bit worried about is that the other flavours might be a bit grainy as well but then I'm always a sucker for trying something new. This product would do well for a novice or someone who doesn't have a lot of time to do things themselves.
The instructions were easy to understand which is always a good point especially when you are trying something new and don't want to be standing there reading it over and over again and wondering what is missing.
I bought a bag of this flavoured icing sugar a few months back. I was interested to see how it would go as I was going through icing sugar by the kg every few days. You could say, I was baking up a cupcake storm. My first use of this, I simply added a little water and mixed it together. This made a very sweet and rich chocolate icing. It was easy enough to spread with a knife and made a good topping for my vegan chocolate cake, because it didn't need butter.
That said, I wasn't as excited by the icing in it's water-only state. The next time I used it, I turned things up a notch and used it to make a classic buttercream icing. This time, the butter, and the icing sugar, plus a touch of milk whipped together made for a fluffy icing. The flavour was less rich and sweet because of the milk and butter.
The next thing I tried with this, was to mix a little cream into it to make an icing as well. That came out okay, but I preferred the buttercream. This would make a great addition to a homemade ice cream, to make a rich chocolate flavour. It would also be quite nice as a dusting sugar instead of tradition icing sugar. Just something a bit different really. I would even suggest using it as a topping to a frothy coffee. Yummy!
This stuff is great....it really takes the hassle out of making icing as all you need to do is add hot water and stir, and if you want/or need a more glossy appearance add a nob of butter and hey presto you have a perfect chocolate icing each and every time.
I use this icing all the time to ice a chocolate slice that I make, the chocolatey taste fits this slice perfectly it is almost like they were made for each other...and one bag of this icing lasts ages too, as you don't need to use a lot of it....a little goes a long way and you only need a thin layer of icing as too much of this icing can be too sweet.
I wish that the bag had a ziplock or something on it so the bag could be sealed up again as usually I only use a small amount and it would just be more convenient to leave the icing in the bag rather than emptying it into a container.
This is an easy product for the children to mix up as well...with an adult pouring in the hot water it is easy enough for young children to spoon the dry icing into the bowl and stir it around until it is silky smooth and ready to apply to the cake or slice or biscuits or whatever baked item you have. The children are so happy with making the icing and this keeps them interested and gives them a simple task to complete and they love helping out.
Unlike using icing sugar and cocoa powder to make a chocolate icing this icing actually tastes like chocolate is melted into the mixture, it really is is decadent and rich in a chocolate flavour and taste...and you can alter how runny or how thick you want the icing depending on how much powder or how much water you add so it can be made to each person's taste.
A great product that I will continue to buy as long as it is on the shelf at the supermarket, it is good value for money and tastes delicious!
This stuff is great! It really takes the hassle when you are wanting to make chocolate icing as you only need the one bag to make it. It is so easy to make too, just add water and mix to the consistency you need. I like to make butter cream icing so I use more icing and less water to make a really rich creamy choc icing.
I used this for decorating cupcakes for my daughters birthday party and for frosting cakes underneath the fondant and 1 bag makes a lot of butter cream frosting you can easily do two cakes and a batch of 24 cupcakes so it really goes along way so you are getting good value for money.
The frosting itself has a really rich creamy taste and as it is already mixed together you get a real even colour and don't end up adding too much cocoa or not enough cocoa into the bowl. It is a really yummy chocolate icing taste that works well on cupcakes but it is quite sweet so you don't need to put too much on them.
Ive never heard or seen this product before on a quick run to the dairy to get some more baking products I ran out of, I noticed this and since I wanted choc icing for my cupcakes this was going to make it so much easier.
The instructions are really easy 1.5 cups of chocolate icing sugar and 2 tablespoons of boiling water and mix, you can make it richer with a bit of butter. You can use it just like icing sugar and dust your cakes, muffins etc instead of making it into a icing. The taste is great, yummy and rich just like the packet says, there was no need for the butter as it was just without it, only needed a small layer on the cake. It dries fast and hard so you gotta be quick to get sprinkles or anything else that you want to stick onto your goodies.
I saw this in other flavours too that I'm willing to give a go as well, guess some more baking will be needed, the price isnt too bad either considering I would prob spend about that on all the ingredients to actually make it myself. There are also so many things you can do with this, that it is pretty much worth it
