NOTE: There are more than 1200 words in this package containing YBCR and Your Child Can Read including the 200 most frequently used words in children's literature. The YBCR program is designed to teach reading in a way that is similar to how infants learn other language skills. The babies start off memorizing what words look like, what they sound like, and what they mean. This is similar to how babies learn to understand and say words -- they start off memorizing what the words sound like and what they mean.
Toddlers naturally figure out grammar by figuring out the patterns of the spoken language without being told the rules of grammar. It is possible for babies and toddlers to figure out the patterns of the written language after learning to read many individual words. The Your Child Can Read program is much more of a phonics-based program and the intent of YCCR is to have the children read at a fast rate with comprehension.
Ages 3 months to 7 years.

Ok we got sucked in on a tv ad to buy this set and it was a try before you buy type of thing. So we went for it, after a lot of ummming and ahhing first. Now our oldest was about 18mths when we decided to get this meaning the youngest was only 2mths but we did it anyway. I knew for a very early age with our oldest she had speech problems so we were hoping this would help her.
The pack came quickly and we were very impressed with it 5 DVDs level 1-5 and another one with all on it, then books stage 1-5 which are awesome to read, then slide/flash cards that was also stage 1-5, you also get blank flash cards and a wipe-able pen.
These books have been used so much that ive had to tape some of them up, the only thing I don't like about them is the way they flip open the kids get confused with it and open it kinda sideaways instead of right up or down so there are always tears somewhere, would of been better sideaways. But saying that they are great books and teach the kids lots and our oldest now almost 5 is starting to read the words on the pages herself.
The DVD's are great aswell I'm happy for them to put one on and watch it, they copy the words when they are said and see the word on the screen so they are learning how it is spelt at the same time.. There are fun little things to do like "put your hands up" and the kids will copy. It is a good idea to sit with them when really young to help them work it all out but now with my kids being 3 and 4 I can leave them too it.
The slide/flash cards again are great they have a word on the front you open it to see the picture, you need to be with them as the slides can be a bit hard to push back in resulting for some of our ones to be bent. The blank ones are good for the child to write a word they see with the wipe able pen.
I have had this set now for 3 years and its still use able, its still in reasonable condition for having two kids and well worth the money, I believe anyway. It hasnt help the speech how I wanted it to as it turned out if was a different problem that really needed training but its helping our youngest with his words and helping our oldest with writing and learning to spell new words
