Product reviews...
Anchor CalciYum is delicious. I originally tried Anchor CalciYum with my family as a treat - my dad had brought as a 2L bottle to shared, and guzzled it down. Since becoming an adult I have regularly brought flavoured milk as a treat for myself. Therefore, I have tried many different brands and always find myself coming back to Anchor CalciYum as a delicious drink with a decent price tag.
I typically buy the boxed version of this flavoured milk but since the Poptop versions arrived on shelf I have tried them a few times. The flavour is exactly the same as the boxed version, with the added benefit of being a Poptop = less chance of spillage. The cost of this this CalciYum Poptop versions are about double that of the boxed versions. The cost is worthwhile if the flavoured milk is to be consumed by children who may spill the milk, or if you are on the go. But personally I would stick with the boxed version simply due to price.
The packaging says "No artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners" and carries the Heart Foundation tick. Although these facts may be try, I personally wouldn't suggest sipping flavoured milk daily. I love milk and often have a glass of milk after dinner - but flavoured milk is a different thing. One way or another CalciYum milk has to have been flavoured and I don't think this makes them suitable for a daily treat for children.
Anchor Calci Yum is by far the best tasting flavoured milk available in stores in my opinion so when I found these small bottles in the supermarket I was very happy to say the least. I know that these are probably aimed more at children and I'm at adult but hey whatever works right. At the time of first trying these I was pregnant and suffering terrible heartburn that only milk seemed to help. Being pregnant - if I wanted a certain brand and flavour of something then that's what I got and the cost, rationality (including the time of the day or night) and everything else went out the window .
However 16months later and I'm still buying these little bottles of goodness as a treat for myself! I still prefer this brand of flavoured milk over any other and if this brand isn't available then I just don't buy flavoured milk, its that simple for me. In saying that, I do try not to buy flavoured milk all the time as in day after day. Realistically I just feel that it has to be full of sugars and not the greatest for you (but hey, I was brought up drinking only water so anything apart from water seems that way to me). Watching what I eat and trying to loose post baby weight as also been a contributing factor to this personal decision. It is for this reason that I like these bottles even more now - they are great portion control for a treat!!
On the bottle it states no artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners and it carries the Heart Foundation tick... But I'm not entirely convinced those things make it any better for you. Which is okay for me as a treat but I would be quite hesitant at giving it to my daughter until she's quite a lot older. In saying this, again I would choose this brand over others because it has these things, and I would choose this flavoured milk over other options on the market such as juice or fizzy.
I find the price of these little bottles to be quite expensive for the size, but then most things these days are like that. However for portion control and for a children's sized drink they are affordable and its not worth giving to much thought to. Overall a great invention, one I appreciate and hope it stays round for the long run! Totally recommend to all
My daughter is a milk fiend. She drinks at least 500 mls a day, and often takes boxes of flavoured milk to school. When I saw these come out a couple of months back I was pretty excited. The price for a bottle of this milk is often more than you would pay for a box of milk. A box could set you back as little as 99 cents (at a supermarket) when sold individually. The Pop tops are closer to $1.80 (at a supermarket) , so still not too bad.
The bottle is recyclable, and its the same flavoured milk that my daughter knows and loved. The pop tops come in three flavours. We have tried the chocolate and the strawberry. I haven't seen the banana one around on sale very often otherwise we would have tried that one too.
What I love about these are the ease and convenience of the pop top. If a lid pops up, it can be popped back down. Sometimes I will take my daughter places where she is super excited to be. Then she asks for a box of milk, drinks some and spills the rest through my bag, all over the ground, you name it! That's down to her wanting to get going and not be slowed down by a drink. But the boxes once open have to be drank. Not so with the pop tops. So for that simple fact, when we are going somewhere where I know she'll want a milk drink and we are going to be "on the go" I reach for a pop top over a milk box. Its only logical.
Anchor CalciYum Poptop milk is available in 3 yummy flavours: Chocolate, Banana and Strawberry in a 250ml size. According to the package you do not have to keep it in the fridge, you can keep it in the pantry (not sure why you wouldn't want it nice and cold though).
Like all new products that offer convenience or ease when it comes to children, trying is a given. My kids love the handy pop tops. The size is perfect for littlies and easy to hold. And the pop tops ensure the milk doesnt spill out everywhere like with the bottles and cartons. Even better is the fact that the flow is not fast but a nice slow flow perfect for kids. My kids said the flavors are really yum and the strawberry is like fresh fruit. :)
Sometimes the price can be off putting when buying dairy products, but as these have saved my carpets on so many occassions, I don't mind spend the extra couple of dollars, and I know my kids love them. These are a regular on our shopping lists, and if the kids were alowed them in their lunch boxes they would be in there every day.
I don't like my children having a lot of sweet drinks encouraging them to drink water the majority of the time but I do get my daughter the strawberry or chocolate ones of these from time to time as a treat. When we go to the supermarket she always asks for one as she knows I will say no to fizzy drink but with these she can usually twist my arm.
She has never drunk milk since coming off formula at 2 years old and doesn't eat yoghurt or cheese either. It is quite a pain sometimes as she doesn't even have cereal with milk even weetbix! I let her have these flavoured milks as she enjoys them and I can see her getting at least some calcium. The package states that it contains 1/3 of children's calcium needs a day so it is quite a decent level of calcium in each bottle.
On fridays her school does lunch orders and these are available to purchase so she gets one with her lunch every Friday and they are a good size so there is not too much to drink in one sitting as I don't like the thought of it sitting in her bag all day. She really likes the strawberry and chocolate ones but does not like the banana at all not being a fan of bananas.

Juicies are an icon product in schools and are loved by children all over New Zealand and Australia. The great thing is that parents love them too as they have the Heart Foundation Tick, contribute to the recommended two or more servings of fruit a day, and don't contain any preservatives, colours or artificial flavours.
