April is an extremely fussy Turtle and will only eat what she wants when she wants and will not be told what to eat - I have learnt this all the hard way. So a lot of trial and error has gone into finding out what she likes and what she doesn't. Firm favourites are Worms and Snails from the garden, Chicken, Salmon, Shrimps and Fish. She also only likes her food to be extremely fresh and as I can not go to the supermarket every day to buy the chicken (only eats the ocean food during the summer) I have to occasionally resort to package food.
Now April also likes to be hand feed so I need to have something that is long and my fingers are not in jeopardy of been bitten. I brought Wardley Turtle Treat on a whim and on the occasions that she eats them she loves it but only a handful at a time. I have learnt the trick is to find the longest one I can and wiggle it in the water and when her highness decides to she will come up and take it, then its free for all and her head will poke up waiting for the next one.
She even has started eating them off the surface of the water but once it gets watery and starts to drop she will not touch it. So I now only put a few in at a time until she swims off and ignores the rest. These are great for those fussy turtles when you have nothing fresh for them. April enjoys them but like I stated only a few at a time. The most I can do is three days in a row and then I am faced with the evils and she refuses to eat which makes me feel guilty. But she does like them for breakfast during the summer months not while doing her mini hibernating period during the winter.
My turtle loves these treats.....he is a rather solitary creature but when he senses these drop into the water he is out of his hiding place like a rocket....he isn't used to being handled either, before I got him he was basically left to fend for himself so when I read on the packet that these treats are perfect for hand feeding I couldn't resist buying them because I want the turtle to become more friendly.
I also like that the treats are a healthy treat for turtle, it helps to support his eyes keeping them healthy and the treat is low fat!! The packet the treats are stored in is resealable which is handy and just very convenient
The treats are very light weight, also the consistency of a rice crispy but just bigger and longer, the colours like natural a red colour and brownish orange colour. As soon as the treats hit the water they start to absorb the water and the treat softens allowing Turtle to easily break off a piece and gobble it up. If I am not handing the treat in my hand they are light enough to float on the top of the water waiting for Turtle to swim over and eat them.
As well as containing the vitamins required to give healthy eyes and vitamin D the treats also contain vitamins to support his shell and, which is vitally important for him. The price is perfectly suited for the product you are receiving...one packet lasts my turtle for 1 month and that is with giving him one to two treats every day....more if my nieces are here!!
