The Smash Nude rubbish free lunch box is a favourite in our house. We have two, the small and the large lunch boxes as well as the lunch box sleeve and the ice packs.
When my son was getting ready to start school one thing I wanted was a good lunch box and one big enough for school but also after school snacks as he would be attending an after school programme. As I was concerned about food going off and him not eating things that were not 'right' I also invested in the cover. As my son has some food aversion I needed this to be right.
I had not realised that his school was a rubbish free school until he started. This lunch box quickly became a life saver as the food didn't touch each other and everything could remain separate. The small containers became great for small items or we removed them and used that space for whole apples or pears. He also separated items in the main section with the sandwich seatbelt. It also held enough food for him to get through the whole day.
I found the Nude rubbish free lunch box easy to use and my son had no issues using the lunch box or the sleeve. He uses both every day and only now, one and a half years later has the lunch box broken. The sleeve is still going strong. The pieces on the lunch box that holds it closed no longer clip down properly.
As for other areas. It's easy to clean by removing the tops of each section and placing in the dishwasher. It was easy to label with my son's name with a vivid on one and a stick on name label on the other. It is also a great size for his school bag. It fits nicely leaving enough room for books and artwork to also fit. And with the sleeve we have had no nasty spills into the school bag.
Overall I would recommend this lunch box especially if your child is like mine and requires food to be separated. We have had no issues using it and will be buying another one for this year.
I love my Rubbish Free Lunchbox. It's easy for little hands to open while still being large enough to hold everything for an older persons appetite. The removable pods and dividers are very useful in shaping the space to your requirements.
A typical lunch box in our house starts with cut apple and peeled mandarin in the pods at the end (whole for the older child), a banana underneath the sandwich in the middle and a handful of chips in the section at the other end. However this can easily be changed, a divider can be popped into the chip section and something else added, in the middle the divider can be removed and a filled roll popped in. Fill the pods with yoghurt or remove them and add a muffin, the possibilities are endless and you don't need to worry about things leaking or a whole heap of plastic/paper rubbish.
They keep everything lovely and fresh, the neoprene sleeve is useful in the summer as are the gel ice packs you can purchase for them. The down sides are the cleaning, if they don't get at least rinsed promptly things can get caught and they're a little tricky to dry. The clips and the hinges aren't the strongest in the world, although in the 4 years we've been using them they have made huge changes and they last much longer than they used to. You can now purchase replacement lids for the end sections online at an excellent price which will hopefully make your lunchbox last that much longer.
I recommend them to everyone as not only does it reduce waste and encourage independence but it saves money by reducing the amount of pre-packaged products you need to buy. As well as there is no longer a need to purchase gladwrap, lunch paper, and plastic bags that you would otherwise use to keep lunch together yet separated from the different components.
This looked like the perfect lunch box for Miss9 who likes a bit of variety in her lunch box. It also looked like it would protect the fruit and stop the bruising. This was not to be.
This lunch box has broken one week shy of the end of the first term. The bit that keeps the sandwich compartment closed has snapped off. Even if it hadn't it was going in the bin.
The reason for the dumping is that it so ridiculously hard to keep clean that it has become a health hazard. Crumbs of all sorts have gathered in the joins. We have tried taking all the bits apart that we could and sticking it in the dishwasher. Nothing has truly worked. It is a real shame as it is an excellent size for a lunch box with lots of space for fruit, sandwich and whatever else Miss wanted to fill her lunch box with.
While living in Australia we bought these lunch boxes for the kids as their first lunch boxes. They did well and were very easy to use for kids and adults. I did like the idea of rubbish free lunch-box then I noticed that children the same age as my oldest who was 3 at the time 4 now couldn't open packets on her own while at home, while other children who took bars etc to daycare could. So I started putting the packets into the lunch-box which took up more room.
Nude movers have made it great for those children that go to a rubbish free school there are pods for yoghurt or dried fruit etc and then another space on the other side that can fit crackers, or like my kids enjoyed vege sticks and the other pod with a dip of some sort. In the middle a nice big space for sandwiches with a divided as well you can pop more things under it or sandwich on the bottom and baking on top etc or a freeze block under with sandwich on top.
Nude movers make sleeves that can fit over the lunch-boxes keeping cold food cold still. The only problem I had was the kids couldn't get the sleeves on themselves which annoyed me as every 2 seconds while out and about I was having to put the sleeve back on, was some sort of silly game with them. Sadly my clips became really loose and stopped clicking and keeping everything in so out they went.
Otherwise these are great lunch-boxes.
I have been searching for a lunchbox that suits the needs of my two girls (3 and 4.5) and think I have finally found it with the Nude Lunch Movers Rubbish Free Lunchbox. We had been using the Tupperware lunchboxes which were much more expensive than these but there were two problems we had with these: firstly my girls had difficulty opening them, which is going to become an issue with one of them starting school in a couple of months; and secondly we were very limited with what fruit could fit in with no space for a whole apple.
I had seen the Rubbish Free Lunchboxes in the shop and other kids using them and thought they looked great but needed to know if they would fit a piece of fruit. I asked on the Nude Food Movers' Facebook page and got an answer within a day; Yes it would fit a regular apple but not a huge one. This sounded perfect so I searched online and found on special for $16 including a triple snack tube. A real bargain, so I purchased one for each of my girls.
There are three main sections to the lunchbox. The first is slightly rounded and has two removable containers (snack pods) that could be used for yogurt, fruit salad or anything else you want to keep air/watertight. I usually use one of these and have an apple or pear in the other one's space and there is still room for a small plastic spoon.
The largest section is designed for sandwiches and has a removable divider so you could separate sandwiches, or put an ice pack under it. I often put popcorn or chips on the lower level of this section. I also find I can fit a small banana in this part if I remove the divider with space to put smaller things around it.
The end section has a removable divider and is great for treats like biscuits or cakes. My daughters are really pleased that they can open the lunchbox by themselves. The only thing they need help with is screwing the lid back on the snack pods. These lunchboxes are great for parents like me that don't have lots of packets for their kids, I make my kids's lunches the night before and although the sections don't seal the food is still fresh at lunchtime.
If my girls had a regular lunchbox or lunch bag I would have a lot more small containers or resealable bags to wash each night. These lunchboxes have saved me lots of washing up. Time will tell how long these lunchboxes will last but they are a hit with both Mum and kids. We just have the transparent one but there are now bright colours available too.
