If it hadn't been for the pink car, this would probably have scored '10' in Personal Choice...
I have never been able to resist a slotcar set that has good track elements... and the overhead loop on this one, as well as the raised banking 180 turn was a lot of fun and a very nice twist on things.
Due to technical problems, (as shown by the seriously OOGLY little video attached to the other Carrera slotcar listing we couldn't do a video review of this one, but if there is enough interest from readers, we will get on to making one and upload it to our YouTube channel.
You have to really pay attention to this track - it's not like many other inferior versions on the market where you can set and forget... this one requires you to slow down on some curve, speed up on others, and sometimes even hit the risky 'turbo' mode just before you kick into the overhead loop... but take care with 'turbo' because if you hammer it at the wrong point, it's Hasta la vista, baby and off the track your car flies...
A great match for Nintendo's 'Mario Karts' game franchise, this is a great present for any kid (of almost any age) who loves Mario and co. The track is time consuming to set up, but so worth it when you finally get to zoom the cars around it. I'd love to see more in the way of add-on packs with different cars though, haven't seen much on the shelves as yet... but the two vehicles from the original Cars set work great on this track and seem to perform better on the loop too... maybe because of the lower center of mass and slightly lighter chassis.
Overall, with the rotten weather creeping up on us in a not-at-all-subtle way, this would be a great way to pass a soggy, miserable day with the kids stuck indoors... and let's face it, you'll probably have just as much fun playing time-challenge races, or some other variant... and they'll need your help for an hour to set up the track at least.
