Product reviews...
This set contains just about every pen anyone would ever need, and I mean it. The pens are very stylish in their design and they fit into the hand nicely and flow just as nicely, the click pencil has just the right firmness of graphite for writing with out smudging too much.
I did however have troubles with the fountain pen. Putting it together was easy enough, however it took me a while to get any ink to flow following the instructions, but I suspect it was a user problem as opposed to any actual issue with the pen itself. When I did get it working it wrote very nicely indeed and the ink dried within a good amount of time.
The other pens worked beautifully and all wrote with a nice look and no messy smudging, blotting or blotching.
I highly recommend this set either for oneself, or better yet as a gift.
Im old school. These electronic notepads and things leave me cold. Too old for that stuff. Gimme a pad and a pen and I can take notes like a dictaphone. So it was worth noting that my first impressions were "OK, for this price these just have to be cheap crap." There are times I love being proved wrong and this was one of them.
The fountain pen is great. No drips or blotches to worry about and the ink is suitable for rapid use as it dries very quickly. I have always loved the flow of a fountain pen but always hated having to mop up blots and dribbles if the paper was too absorbant and sucked the ink out too fast. Even trying blotter paper with this I didnt get any incidents of blobbing.
The assorted pens are just that, assorted pens. Nothing really spectacular about them other than they seem to carry a style that lifts them above your run of the mill ballpoint. The pencil is also part of the style despite a pretty standard behaviour. They work the same but they look like they belong on a business desk instead of peeking out of a protected labcoat pocket.
One pen worthy of mention though is the 3-colour pen. There are many similar out there in terms of function but this one just operated so smoothly I was hard pressed to find any way it could fault. In the end I just gave up and accepted that though these are inexpensive, they are not cheap. I mean I even risked the fountain pens Iridium nib by jamming it (repeately) through a soda can and still it wrote smooth flawless script until the ink cart ran out. All carts are easy to replace, so its no big deal if you get the dries half way through a letter.
All in all, an excellent product that I find hard to understand how they make a profit on! A stunning find and one I can not recommend too highly.
This pen set contains more pens than you will ever seriously need - but want them anyway. And a truly stylish set to boot.
The set contains a fountain pen, a propelling pencil and an assortment of other pens too - not to mention the massive refill set that comes with this set making it a bargain too - especially when you consider the cost of the refills.
The fountain pen is a favourite. I love fountain pens and yet they are so hard to find in NZ. The pen writes so smoothly, it is easily comparable with pens at a much greater price. The ink cartridges, although there are a number with the pen set, are easily obtainable in most stationary shops and at a reasonable price.
The propelling pencil is the other one I use the most. Although I found the pencil leads a little too soft for my liking and I replaced them with something a little harder, I know a number of people will like the softer leads.
The remaining pens have been claimed by my wife and my daughter. I know I have to keep the ones I have well hidden to prevent them disappearing into the black abyss of my wife's handbag or my daughter's bedroom.
Everyone needs pens, and this set is a beautiful set. But one word of warning. Keep it well guarded before the pens go walkies.
