Product reviews...
I am a teacher and in my 20+ years in the classroom, this would have to be my favourite pen to use personally, and for students to use. Firstly, they are reliable. The ink last well, and works right to the end. A bonus for me is that they are refillable. I also love that you have four colours in one pen. So you don't have to find the pink pen, then the green one etc. This particular one has pretty colours too which are a bit different and take away from the mundane of pen colours and constant marking of written work in boring colours.
Let's face it, Bic are the original ball point pen company. Another bonus of these is that they are in fashionable colours. My 11 year old daughter insists on these and the metallic ones for her own pencil case. And of course you have to have every colour. It is reassuring to know that pens that were fashionable at least 30 years ago are still cool to have.
These write beautifully. They don't skip or jump when you write and they are smooth to use. They also are sturdy and don't break as easy as some of the other counterpart. The only improvement I would love to see is a soft grip on them. For kids and adults who write frequently it is so much more comfortable to have a spongy grip where you hold the pen.
I have always loved stationery and as a kid I was obsessed with it always buying and collecting every different coloured pen or pencil imaginable and using these to write the most colourful letters to my friends or notes in my school books, however the one pen that I always had to have in my pencil case and the one that was always most often used was my 4 coloured BIC pen which during my school years consisted of the colours blue, black, red and green, even now I still have one of these BIC pens which I use often and which my 4 year old daughter seems to be quite obsessed with using.
When I saw that BIC had a new 4 Colour Fluo Ballpoint Pen up for review I was pretty excited to see it, it made me think 'what a great idea' as I remember countless times at school where I would run out of the blue and black ink with the green being close to untouched in my pen, the idea of replacing the green ink with a yellow highlighter was a perfectly brilliant idea. I did question how exactly the yellow highlighter would actually work when I was looking at the packet for the first time I mean highlighters are usually a little thicker width than that of your average pen, right? But I soon noticed that the highlighter is in fact 1.6mm in tip with a linewidth of 0.42mm, as opposed to the ballpoint colours which are 1.0mm in tip with a 0.32mm line width, this made perfect sense to me.
The size of the pen's barrel is of a great size and one that you can comfortably grip and hold in your hand without it becoming sore or awkward to write with, and I love that the barrel is of a clear yellow colour and that you are able to see the ink levels through this as it let's you know when certain ink colours are running low. The real test however came to writing with the pen, the blue, black and red ink seemed to flow really well, it didn't stop at any time and the pen felt smooth to write with, the colours were nice and bold which made them really easy to read. The highlighter was of a fluorescent yellow just how you would expect a highlighter to be, but rather than using it like a traditional highlighter where you would simply pull the highlighter over text to highlight it I found that I more had to use this one by scribbling over text, however it did the job without any issues, and seemed to work great for underlining text as well.
All in all this is a great pen, smooth to write with, works as a highlighter and simple to use with the easy push down tabs for selecting your needed colour. As an Early CHildhood teacher this is a great pen I am finding to have at work with me, makes colour coding notes and highlighting important pieces in my notebook easy, no needing to search for different colours all of the time which can be a nightmare! My 4 year old quite liked this pen so I plan to pop one into her Christmas stocking this year along with the BIC 4 colour pen I spotted at the supermarket the other day which consists of pastel/metallic colours as I can see her loving this.
I thought the concept of a multi-choice bic pen with a highlighter was BRILLIANT. I saw the advertising on the back of a bus and I couldn't wait to give one of these gems a try. I was a little surprised to find the highlighter was actually a fluro pen, and I really wasn't sure how that would work in reality. I popped it in my work bag and put the pen to work. The colour of the blue was nice, I must admit to being a little fussy, I don't like my blue pens too dark, and they can't smudge!
It was incredibly handy having the red, and black available when I needed to change colours, which I frequently need to do being a teacher. I did reach for my hand conventional highlighter though for my work. Later in the week, I had a course to attend, I took the bic pen to 'put it through its paces'. I was taking notes and using a hand out given by the instructor. I gave the fluro pen a whirl, and to my delight, I found I didn't miss my conventional highlighter at all. I could underline, circle and highlight in a myriad of ways, and my work stayed neat and presentable.
I think this is a brilliant invention, and it will be a must on stationary lists for school children next year, and I know all teachers are going to want to get their hands on this, I say this very sincerely as I took mine to work and it has already gone 'missing'. Some teacher has borrowed it and found that they can no longer live with-out it! I think these would make a great secret Santa gift this year for the person who has everything.
Oh the multiple choice coloured pens I remember how cool these were when I was a little girl, you could buy the pens with ridiculous numbers of colour choices often though with the cheaper brands and the more colours they contained the less amount of time the pen would last. Bic Pens always seem to last the distance even in the four colour option. My daughter has long used these pens for her college studies so she can have the colours she needs for titles, underlining and writing all in the one pen and she definitely prefers the Bic brand.
I wasn't sure how the yellow/fluo variety would work I was thinking before opening how you would put a highlighter in the pen of course a highlighter ink is very different and would be a bit hard to contain a thicker point highlighter in with the other 3 colours. With this it is not your usual highlighter soft tip but the ink that comes from the yellow choice is definitely a fluro yellow and can easily highlight all your important parts we tried it out by underlining titles, circling things, and shading over them and it very easily makes your important study notes or information stand out so perfect for my daughter with her ncea study.
The highlighter point is ever so slightly thicker than the normal colours so it does provide a thicker line which is quite handy too my daughter used it for revising her study material before exams and as she went through her notes for the term she was able to easily pinpoint her most important points to study so they stood out for her to see easily at a glance. As a four colour bic pen the price is pretty normal for the range and these pens are good value for money for the fact you aren't really getting one pen you are getting four in one!
Being a teacher I always have a rather large collection of pens not far from where I am working - at home, in my handbag and at work! Bic is certainly a brand that has built a very good reputation and all of their products are easily identifiable in the shop against similar products. Until now though, I have never come across a multi-colour pen that includes a highlighter. I use highlighter a lot to mark things off that have been completed or to do my study and the thought of having a pen with ballpoint and highlighter made my writing life seem that much easier!
I was wondering just how they would incorporate a highlighter considering highlighters are so thick compared to pens, but when it arrived in my KIWIreviews parcel I realised that it was a larger width ballpoint pen with highlighter ink in it, which meant it wasn't quite the highlighter I was expecting.
Being an early childhood teacher I write lots of learning stories for the tamariki in my care. When I take photos of experiences for these learning stories I write the date and what was happening in a notebook as it saves time on trying to find photos later. When it comes time to write a story I read my notebook to figure out what date and which child it was so that I can find the photos and get to work. Once each story is written I highlight it in the notebook so I know that it is done. This is where I thought this pen would be perfect! I would be able to use the biro pens for writing the details of what photos I had taken, and then use the highlighter to mark them off. I was a little disappointed when I found out that the highlighter was just a thick ballpoint pen though.
Wanting to highlight my words I had to scribble over the words until they were all covered. This certainly wasn't as quick as grabbing a thick highlighter and doing one line over the words. The highlighter also made the ink smudge just a little bit, and it was ink that had been written a few days prior so had definitely had time to dry. I do think however that the highlighter would be great for jobs where underlining is needed. The colour is certainly bright and it does stand out, it just wasn't quite what I was expecting and probably not something I would get much use out of, other than the biro pens (which knowing Bic will keep working for quite some time yet!).
Ever since I can remember I have always enjoyed writing, whether it was writing letters to people and sending them via snail mail, writing lists of jobs to do or things to remember, or writing for assignments and exams. I am very particular about the kind of pen I like to use, and once I find a decent one I like to stockpile a stash of them.
I hadn't seen the Bic 4 colour Fluo pen before so was quite excited when I saw it available to request on the KIWIreviews site. Upon receiving my box of review goodies I was pleasantly surprised to see one of the pens included. In my opinion, the Bic packaging is easily distinguishable with its yellow background, black writing and the unmistakable logo. The packet shows that the blue, black and red ballpoints are 1.0mm and the yellow point is larger at 1.6mm. I liked the idea that one pen could do it all, so no more searching for a highlighter.
When I first grasped the ballpoint pen in my hand I was happy with how thick the pen was, I did notice though that I felt like I was squeezing my hand tight as I kept feeling like my grip on the plastic was slipping. Changing the colours was easy to do and no matter how many times I changed it, it didn't get stuck. I enjoyed how the ink flowed consistently and when I decided to try to do cursive it was effortless. The blue, black and red nibs make the writing nice and thin like I prefer.
When it came time for me to use the yellow I was intrigued with how efficient it would be. The first thing I did was to try underlining a sentence, the colour was brighter than expected and it stood out well. When it came time to try and highlight a word I was sceptical how the yellow over the blue pen would work. The effect of the yellow was good, not as good as a normal highlighter but still visible. The downside to this was that I found the blue pen did smudge a little while putting the yellow over it.
As someone that loves to be organized, I believe this will be a great asset to me in the future, and I would highly recommend this to students in particular as this will be a valuable piece of stationery.
It was like BIC crawled into my primary school aged head and knew exactly what I wanted... just a few decades late! This honestly made my pen dreams come true haha. I am a huge pen fan, I have so many yet so few favourites as I am also hard to please when it comes to ink. So I was very excited when I got to review one of these BIC 4 Colour Fluro Ballpoint Pens.
I love how they make 4 colour pens without the barrel of the pen being too bulky and hard to handle. Anything much bigger would result in my hand getting a major cramp and having to stop using such device! This one sat nicely on the muscle between the thumb and index finger and made it very comfortable to write with. The ink flowed freely onto the paper, and didn't leave gaps of missed ink as some pens have in the past (unreliable cheap brands).
The green used to be my favourite colour, so when I saw that it was omitted in favour of the yellow highlighter, I was slightly sad. But once I started using the yellow highlighter pen, all was forgiven because of how easy it was to use and how great having pens and a highlighter in one contraption was. No more worrying about trying to find a highlighter when needed, no more worrying about finding said highlighters lid when you were done for a period. With a ballpoint ink highlighter rather than a classic felt tip, there is no worry about it drying up. It will run out before it can dry up! The only real fear I have now to trying to keep it away from the kids.
I remember growing up and being the envy of my friends when my mum brought me a colour changing pen. There was nothing more exciting then making my school work stand out and look so bright and interesting using different colours and underlining them in a different colour. I used to look with pride at my work, even though my science teacher hated it - I absolutely adored it. Fast forward some thousand years and now I see my girls doing exactly the same thing and begging for there very own pen.
I enter magazine competition and one thing I love doing is decorating my envelope hoping it stands out from the rest of the entrants but the big issue in this house is just like socks pens disappear in to the abyss never to be seen again. Or, on the odd occasion the pen is where I left it I can never find a different colour. This is where this pen is fantastic it does it all. I was a little hesitant using the yellow as I adored the green but I have to say the yellow has been a big hit with everything. Also on those occasions I have not filled out the homework record sheet it was very handy to be able to change colours so it looks like it was done on a different day.
It is so simple to use just click down the tabby thing and a new colour is present. The pen is the perfect size and it is not too fat to fit in the hand. It writes beautifully and besides my youngest trying to use it every chance she gets I have not lost it yet. I was at first a little put off by the yellow see thru area as I am used to the solid white but I do enjoy watching the mechanics of the pen working and watching the new ink fall down thru the shute.
Considering how much pens cost and how many I seem to buy the price is spot on when you look at the fact you are getting four different colours in one and they all seem to work together. I also enjoy writing in black and giving it a pop by having the yellow shade it. My envelops are popping and I am expecting the courier guy to be delivering my prizes very soon. For anyone who loves stationery especially pens this is one thing that every house needs.
I quite simply love stationary in every form and way. New products down the stationary aisle just about call out my name and I somehow can just never say no to adding more to my collection! So when the opportunity came up to review this wonderful pen I very quickly put my hand up, I couldn't believe my luck and knew I would use this pen endlessly. My thoughts have only been proven true and I can't recommend this pen highly enough.
First things first, who doesn't love a BIC 4 colour pen ~ I remember having one since I was a young child and used to love the option of changing all the colours as I was writing (and still do). Perhaps this is really where my love of stationary started haha! I also remember trying to click on all the colours at once haha I had to laugh when my daughter (aged 4) tried to do the same thing. She has spent hours drawing with this pen and I love that she got as much enjoyment out of trying out this product as I did.
Being a teacher and a manager, means I am always writing in some form or way and I always have an array of pens nearby as well as a highlighter or two. Having this condensed down to just one product is quite simply amazing! Especially when I am working at home with limited space and dodging attempts from my 2year old to swipe anything he can - this pen has really added simplicity to my life!
I love the updated version that is this pen, no-one ever used the green colour anyway and the ease of use is still the same which is of high importance. I also love the see through barrel - so you can see when the ink is getting low. The highlighter is really effective, its still from a ball point end which when I thought about it makes sense but isn't what I initially thought - I just automatically thought it would contain a felt tip end. Overall a ten out of ten, I totally recommend that you purchase this pen today ~ you will not regret it!!
I have always loved BIC pens and usually have a variety of blue and black pens scattered around, along with some bulky highlighters. I was looking forward to trying out the Bic 4 Colour as they take me back to my childhood. Admit it, who hasn't tried to push all four colours at the same time to see what happens?! The pen itself is stylish with a transparent yellow barrel that allows you to keep an eye on the ink levels. At the flick of a lever, you have the choice of 3 ballpoint pens and the fourth being a handy yellow highlighter.
Well, this pen is awesome and so convenient. It was great for puzzles, Suduko, and letter writing. I liked the fact that I could just quickly change the colour to emphasize different words and the highlighter was the highlight! I usually have a big bulky highlighter that I use but having a highlighter in the pen is a stroke of genius as it saves time having to find multiple pens.
My daughter saw this and it was love at first sight. She asked if she could use it for writing and then disappeared for an hour. When I went to investigate, I found she had started writing a story and had used the pen's various colours to emphasize certain words and highlight others. She could have easily sat down and done this with a variety of pens but I think having all the colours in one pen enabled her to get creative and have fun.
This is great for people that use pens a lot, whether at work or at home. I will be getting more of them as I'm sure they will disappear when others discover them!
I don't know what it is about stationery but I have a certain fondness for it and love to collect new things that look good but are also practical. When I received this new BIC 4 Colour Fluro Ballpoint Pen to review I was pretty excited to find out how useful it would be. For my job I write quite a bit and usually in different colours so I can easily find what I'm looking for by just skimming the page rather the reading the whole lot in depth. For this reason I can generally be found with 3-4 pens thrown around my desk in various places.
What I liked most about this pen is that all 4 colours are within in the one pen and I don't have to search underneath all the other paper on my desk to find the 1 colour I am looking for, I just need to push down the correct colour at the top. The addition of the fluro colour is absolutely genius and I can't believe it hasn't been done before! Being able to highlight the important parts of a document makes it sooo much easier to make it stand out and find quickly.
I can see this pen being especially useful to teachers who do a lot of marking with red pens and highlighting parts the kids need to pay attention to. It's also going to be incredibly useful to office workers who generally juggle holding a highlighter and pen in the same hand to effectively complete their work.
I'm not entirely sure if anyone really ever used the green in the original 4 colour pen but I am so happy that it's been changed to a very useful highlighter colour. I can't imagine going back to searching the paper on my desk for that hidden pen and will definitely be buying a couple more of these for those times when I bring the pen home and forget to bring it back into the office.
As a Kiwi I have always used Bic pens. I have owned their four coloured pens since I was a teenager and found it handy at university to be able of underline my headings in different colours. As a teacher we had to use different coloured pens for different things so it was always handy to have one pen that did it all rather than having to carry several pens. Now I am on longer teaching I still prefer to buy the four coloured pens as I can always be guaranteed that at least one colour will work for me.
I have seen different versions of the classic four colour pen over the years but the latest with a highlighter rather than a green ink excited me. I even went into the bookshop to get one before they were available for review. Unfortunately they didn't have them yet but the shop assistant was as excited as I was. I was hoping to get one for myself but also to add to my Dad's Father's Day present as he is a keen crossword puzzler.
I was lucky enough to be given one to review. It has proven very popular in my household and is currently missing. There are the standard blue, red and black pens and a ball point highlighter yellow. Miss 7 had been learning her basic facts for a maths-a-thon at school. I found that giving her this pen to write her answers with provided good motivation although it did slow her down was she was constantly changing colours. Miss 9 wrote a very colourful letter to the tooth fairy using Mum's new pen.
We found that you could write with the highlighter colour but it wasn't as easily read as the other colours which was a bonus if someone was looking over your shoulder. The highlighter was also great for underlining information. You could also scribble over the top of your writing with a highlighter and still clearly see the writing below. I love this new Bic 4 colour pen and will be buying more both for myself (since someone has stolen mine) and to add to Christmas presents
If someone had told me a few weeks ago that I would be writing a review on a Bic pen, I would have laughed. After all, what can you say about a pen? It is designed to make marks on paper while keeping the hands of the user free of inky stains. It needs to be comfortable to use. It needs to last a reasonable length of time. And it needs to be inexpensive - especially if, like me, you are always losing it.
Well, I have revised my opinion. There is actually a lot to be said about this pen. As a teacher, I am always losing pens: the main reason is that I change from black to red, then stop to highlight something, then go back to black again. In between changes, the pens mysteriously vanish. In fact, sometimes they vanish permanently and then I have to go and find replacements.
Well, I have been using the new fluo pen for nearly a fortnight and have not mislaid it once - because, instead of swapping tools, I now have everything in the same package. It is wonderful for marking student work as it can change, grade and highlight with just a small adjustment to the loading mechanism. As a teacher, I have to do a lot of marking, and anything that makes my job easier is a bonus. And yellow is the ultimate choice for a highlighter as it is easy to see even on darker paper. It was no accident that the old AA signs used to be yellow and black for heightened visibility.
I am not sure yet what sort of mileage I will get out of it; apparently Bic pens are known for effortlessly writing several kilometres worth of script without drying up, but I have never before had a pen for long enough to test that out. I will be interested to see if the highlighter lasts as long as the three conventional ink pens. At least I will not lose my pen; the little loop on the top means I can tie it to the inside of my schoolbag, and be sure it is going to be there when I need it.
In fact I like everything about it. The barrel is tailor made for someone with incipient RSI from too much interaction with a keyboard as it is large and smooth - meaning you don't have to grip it too tightly. I like the see-through aspect as it not only offers a glimpse of what is inside, but also gives the impression of sleek modernity. And finally, the ink and highlighter colours are perfect for a busy teacher who has to mark a couple of hundred pages of student work by yesterday.
And as for that green ink that has been superseded by fluo yellow? I won't give that a thought. Never used it anyway!
