My nearly-9 year old son is, generally speaking, a bit too young for these books at this stage... but in some areas he is advanced enough to be happy tackling some of the problems and areas covered by this 'year' of books.
With his natural inclination and ability with science, and his newly-acquired passion for applied maths (namely cryptography and cyphers), he is chewing into these books like a starving termite. The English book is still a bit into the 'too hard' zone for him, but it has been gratifying to see him attempting some of the exercises when he's in the right frame of mind, and actually doing quite well at most. The General Homework book also hold many nuggets of gold for his mind, and is a constant companion in the car's "keep the kids occupied" kit.
Overall, for those who are homeschooling their kids, or are giving them added work outside of school to help them reach their full potential, you should be taking a very serious look at this entire range. There is a lot going for it, and little against. Written by teachers and educators strong in the various subjects and in touch with current curriculum guidelines, you can't ask for a more appropriate guide to how best to educate your future generations.
