This has to be one of the best shape sorters that I have come across in my time as an early childhood teacher, and I have come across quite a few of them having worked with babies for most of my 10 years as an Early Childhood Teacher. The Tolo Rolling Shape Sorter is made of a super strong, durable plastic and comes with a variety of different coloured plastic shapes also made from the durable, strong plastic, with such a variety of bright, bold coloured pieces it is eye catching for children and they just love it.
Unlike a lot of shape sorters the Tolo Rolling Shape Sorter features posting holes on both the top and bottom of the toy both which easily unscrew to get the posting shapes back out again, although this does require adult help I have found. The holes which the shapes are posted through have a coloured ring around each of the shapes which I think is great as it allows the children the opportunity to match both the shape and colour in order to work out if it is the right hole to be posted in.
Each of the shapes are nicely rounded so no sharp corners to cut yourself on. Some of the shapes contain different materials inside of them which shake and make sounds, these are very securely contained in the pieces and I don't feel that these pose a safety risk, the pieces are also large enough that you do not need to worry about a child choking on them.
This really is a great quality toy, which provides lots of opportunities for conversation between adults and child about colours, shapes, matching and also sounds, not only can this be used as a shape sorter but younger children also enjoy rolling it along the ground and watching as it moves along. I'm not sure that these are still available on the market but if you are after a short sorter and can get your hands on this exact one then I would totally recommend it.
A great toy for a wide age group. It is bright and appeals to children. The shapes make all different sounds. I like the way the shapes are different colours and children can match the colour or the shape. It is a bit difficult for my 19 month old to open it and get them out again - as opening and closing is such fun at this age it would be good to have it so the child could do it. She also likes storing other toys inside the cage and rolling it along. My 10 week old also loves looking at it. Fantastic toy.
