Watching my son bounding around the back yard in these like some crazed kangaroo was a riot. He seemed to be having a great time, though I admit I was expecting a little more bounce from them.
The design is quite clever in that the downward impact is diverted almost entirely into a horizontal semi-elastic reaction, which in turn is fed back to assist in the rebound and lift-off... but the materials steal so much of the energy that the amount fed back into the bounce is almost nothing compared to the energy the kid feeds into the effort through their legs. In effect, these boots are little more than glorified shock-absorbers. Now, though I feel the design is a little misleading, I still love them! After all... our knees are one of the vital joints we will rely on our entire lives... to offer them protection in youth is to give our young a better shot at a long and active life... so these win my vote for that, if nothing else.
He can cavort and leap around the yard, and I can relax in the knowledge that he isn't going to suddenly bounce off and head-butt the nearest plate-glass window at Mach 2, but nor is he going to gradulally build himself up to suffer a massive and catastophic breakdown of his knee cartiliage. Well, no more so than by any 'normal' activity at least.
Easy to strap on, easy to remove, fairly stable and comfortable to wear (he assured me) once used to the adjusted centre of gravity, I could see him enjoying these for at least another 2-3 years before he abuses them to destruction.
Overall, an excellent toy, a great addition to any hyperactive child's playset... but maybe a little steep and over-hyped on the box. Have a pinch of salt handy when you read the promotional hype... they *are* good and fun, but they aren't kangaroo boots in any physically-accurate sense.
These jumping boots are great. I took one look at them and I felt so excited my tummy did flip-flops. When I put them on they felt well balanced, comfortable and like they were shoes. They are really easy to put on, but when I tried to take them off one of my shoes got stuck! They help me to bounce very high, have great decoration and look like a one-wheeled pair of roller skates. While I was bouncing I felt like I was going to turn into a kangaroo at any second. When my dad gave them to me, I had a great time bouncing up and down for most of the day.
