We arranged a breakfast here for 11 people last week. We faxed off our orders to The Elm the previous day so our meals would be ready on arrival at 8am the following day. I rang back to confirm the Elm had received this, for some reason it had not come through to them so I read the orders out and the staff member wrote them down. All was booked and we were looking forward to a lovely breakfast the next day!
We all arrived around 8am, the staff had all our meals ready and waiting for us in the kitchen just as we had requested, which was fantastic. A waitress took drinks orders; she could have perhaps been a little friendlier and looked a little happier, however she wasn't rude in any way and was polite enough.
Meals started coming out soon after everyone was seated. Everything looked very nice indeed. One slight mix up with the orders - one lady had ordered eggs florentine; but instead eggs benedict had been cooked. The waitress handled this in a professional and apologetic manner, and asked who the person was who took our orders the previous day so she could alert them to their error. The replacement eggs florentine came out soon after. I was pleased this was handled so well.
My own meal was a delight - kumara hash cake with crispy bacon, wilted spinach, poached egg and hollandaise. The kumara hash cake was extremely well flavoured and was a great texture pairing with the other components of the dish. The bacon was indeed crispy, and the flavour suggested it was a good quality bacon. The poached egg was perfect, and the hollandaise brought it all together. This was definitely one of the best breakfast dishes I have ever had the pleasure of eating!
Everybody else thoroughly enjoyed their meals also. We had to ask for somebody to come and take our after-meal coffee orders around the table. Once ordered, these were all brought out in good time.
I was very impressed with my visit on this occasion to the Elm Café. I have been equally impressed on other occasions I have dined here (lunch and dinner). Seems no matter what time of the day, you will always have a fantastic meal at the Elm. Try it!
