Herr's Ghost Pepper Ripple Potato Chips. A little heat is nothing to be scared of! The Ghost Pepper (Bhut Jolokia) was the first pepper to ever break 1,000,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU).
Originating from the Northeast India, it is now used in everything from hot pepper eating contests to spicing up your favourite foods.
Herr's has combined the flavour of this little heat monster with our delicious ripple potato chips to bring you one smokin' hot snack. If you like it hot, you won't be disappointed.
Product reviews...
Three of the members of this household absolutely love foods that have a spice kick, the other two are quite happy with mild food, I decided to try these Ghost Pepper chips to see if they could pack a punch and knock our socks off!
The packaging is certainly eye-catching with the bold red/orange/yellow combo, complimented by the black background behind the picture of the ghost pepper. We can see that on the front according to the heat scale that these chips have a rating of HOT, I was keen to give these a go and see if they live up to the claim.
The packet is 170g in size and these chips are suitable for people that need to eat gluten free products.
Upon opening the packet for the first time there is a definite spiciness to the aroma that wafted up out of the bag. The potato chips are nice and thin ripple style, I grabbed a larger chip and examined it, on both sides I could see the flavour specks and got excited, I decided to take a bite rather than putting the whole thing in my mouth incase it was too spicy. My first bite I was instantly met with the spice, to start with my tongue felt like it was on fire and I got a drink of milk to be on hand, chewing more and the flavour became more manageable, so I proceeded to eat the remainder of the chip, after finishing there is a definite warmth to my inner throat. I gave a small chip to each other person, as expected the ones that do not like spice spat the chip out and had a large drink and vowed not to try them again.
My partner who likes spice tried them, also got the kick at the start, but continued to eat more by the handful, my eldest son was also keen on them but stopped after a handful and said that was enough for him. The flavour on the chips is quite moreish and my partner happily finished the packet over the next following days, normally he will finish a packet of chips in one day so that was interesting.
These chips certainly pack a punch and I think if we purchase these, next time we will try to have a dip of some kind to try mellowing the flavour a tad, but if you are a spicy food enthusiast, I would definitely recommend that you hunt a packet of these down and give them a go!
