Having watched the previous DVD trilogy based on Mary O'Hara's My Friend Flicka books, and finding them somewhat lacking in comparison to the books, I was rather hesitant about checking this movie out, wondering if it too would end up being a disappointment. Already knowing there was at least one big difference between Flicka and the book (the main character being Rob McLaughlin's DAUGHTER, Katy, this time round, instead of his SON Ken), I started to watch it with lower expectations than what I'd had when I'd watched the trilogy. Very quickly I realised that this was a FAR better movie, and found myself thoroughly emersed in it, enjoying it immensely. With a good solid cast... Tim McGraw (one of my favourite country music singers!!) as Rob McLaughlin, Maria Bello (who I'd previously seen in Coyote Ugly and enjoyed her performance then as well) as Katy's mother, Nell McLaughlin, and featuring the talented Alison Lohman as Katy; fantastic scenery (with a fair portion of it shot in beautiful Wyoming); and an enjoyable soundtrack, Flicka is a great movie for any horse lover, and definitely a must if you're a Tim McGraw fan as well, especially with his live performance of My Little Girl included in the special features part of the DVD.
