The Secret of Moonacre product reviews

When 13 year old Maria Merryweather's father dies, leaving her orphaned and homeless, she is forced to leave her luxurious London life to go and live with Sir Benjamin, an eccentric uncle she didn't know she had, at the mysterious Moonacre Manor.

Soon Maria finds herself in a crumbling moonlit world torn apart by the hatred of an ancient feud with the dark and sinister De Noir family. Maria discovers that she is the last Moon Princess and, guided by an unlikely mix of allies, she must overcome her family's pride in order to unearth the secrets of the past before the 5000th moon rises and Moonacre disappears into the sea forever.

This film is adaptation of the novel The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge.

A charming and delightful movie that I am almost certainly going to take my nextdoor neighbour's children to these holidays. I am surprised this film is not yet on general release at hoyts, it is certainly above the standard of the other children's films available for the holidays.

Maria Merryweather, played by Dakota Blue Richards of Golden Compass fame was perfect for the role and held her own all the way up to the agonizingly beautiful climax and resolution of this film. Though it might seem like a simple fairy tale, The Secret of Moonacre had levels and themes that touched the adults in the audience as much as the children. My grandmother came away with a grin just as big as mine.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this film to viewers of all ages. It is magical, beautiful and tells a really good story.
